Pearl Luggers is located the heart Chinatown, Broome, where you can view to the closest link to the pearling era of long ago. This lugger is named in honour of Sam Male, a well-known Broome pioneer who died in 1976. It now forms the centrepiece of this historic display.

Hard hat divers faced many perils of the sea in search of the Pinctada Maxima, the pearl-producing oyster. Not only was the bends a very real danger but they also encountered sharks, stinging jellyfish and whales that could cut off their oxygen lines by accidentally swimming into them!
