Happy (Slightly Late) World Bicycle Day!

Yes, we know it’s June 4 in Australia.

But in our defence, when your community stretches from Australia to Europe, North America, and beyond, someone is always living in yesterday. Time zones are complicated. Bicycles are simple.

So we’re celebrating anyway.

Today we’re raising a water bottle to the humble bicycle: the machine that turns cake into fuel, strangers into friends, hills into achievements, and ordinary roads into adventures.

It’s carried us across continents, through ancient battlefields, over mountain ranges, into tiny villages, and directly to some of the best lunches we’ve ever had.

Not bad for something powered by breakfast.

Whether you’re riding 10km, 100km, or just wheeling your bike out of the garage and promising you’ll ride tomorrow, today is for you.

Here’s to bicycles: the world’s greatest invention after coffee!

Happy World Bicycle Day (give or take a few time zones).

Today’s Ithaka loop delivered everything - huge sea views, tough climbs, fast descents and some seriously good food along the way.

The ride kicked off straight from the dock before we hit the island’s eastern climb - 8km at 7% with nonstop views over the bright blue Ionian Sea back to mainland Greece. Narrow roads clung to the cliffs as we rolled south into Vathy for strong Greek coffee and bakery stops before tackling the next challenge up the west side of the island.

At the top, we explored the atmospheric archaeological site believed by some to be Odysseus’ palace. Whether Ithaka or Kefalonia was truly his home is still debated, but standing up there surrounded by olive trees and ruins, it’s easy to see why the legends began.

Then came the reward - a fast descent into Frikes for a long relaxed lunch on the waterfront with fresh seafood, Greek salads, warm bread, tzatziki and cold drinks by the bay. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon before jumping on the speedboats home for another big celebration dinner together.

Day 24 of The Odyssey - Nafpaktos to Agrinio

Today we climbed back into the remote hills of Central Greece - ancient Aetolia - where it genuinely feels like time has stood still for the last 2500 years. Quiet roads, tiny villages, olive groves and pine-covered hills made this one of those days where you feel completely removed from the modern world.

Rolling through landscapes that felt more Tuscan than Greek, we tackled a few solid lumps before the reward: a beautiful descent to Limni Trichonida, Greece’s largest lake. From there, it was a smooth run into sleepy Agrinio - our final stop on the mainland before the next stage of the adventure.

Day 23 of The Odyssey - Galaxidi to Nafpaktos

One of the toughest - and most rewarding - days of The Odyssey. Today we rode deep into rural Greece, climbing steadily through endless olive groves and into the mountains of the Gionas National Park. Roads carved into the mountainsides, huge skies, and views that made it feel like we were riding straight into the clouds.

At the top? Freshly surfaced roads, not a car in sight, and a dream 15km descent alongside Lake Mornos with only tractors and farm trucks for company. This is the real Greece - wild, quiet and untouched by tourism.

After one final climb through the dramatic Mornos Gorge, we cruised all the way back down to the Corinthian Gulf and rolled into Nafpaktos - home to one of the most beautiful little Venetian harbours in Greece.

Big day. Big climbs. Big reward.

Day 22 of The Odyssey - Galaxidi & Delphi

A perfectly balanced Odyssey day. Some chose to stay in the sleepy seaside village of Galaxidi, soaking up the calm before our final push west toward the Ionian Islands and Odysseus’ home. Others joined the epic early morning ride to Delphi - rolling out before sunrise to circle the bay in the quiet light before climbing through Greece’s endless olive groves toward one of the world’s most extraordinary ancient sites.

Arriving at Delphi before the crowds is something special. Silent ruins, mountain air, mythology everywhere - it’s easy to understand why the ancients believed this was the centre of the world.

For the super keen, the climb continued toward Mount Parnassus, deep into the land of gods, fire and legend.

Back in Galaxidi, another group joined Chrisoula for a cooking class, making traditional spanakopita before sitting down together to enjoy it fresh from the oven.

Big ride or slow village day. There was something fun for everyone.

Day 21 of The Odyssey: Kefalari - Galaxidi

Big climbs, huge views and one epic finish.

Today’s ride throws everything at you - fast descents out of Kefalari, quiet mountain roads, lush green valleys, tiny villages and endless views all the way to the Gulf of Corinth. Wildflowers line the roads, vineyards roll through the hills and the only traffic is the occasional tractor.

After coffee beneath snow-capped mountains and lunch under a monastery bell hanging above the cliffs, it’s all about the descent - 30km of sweeping switchbacks straight down to the water.

Swim in the Gulf, then jump aboard our private boat across to beautiful Galaxidi for two well-earned nights by the sea.

Day 20 of The Ofyssey - Nafplio to Kefalari

Today’s ride delivered everything The Odyssey is about - ancient history, vineyard roads, dramatic climbs and unforgettable village hospitality.

Leaving Nafplio behind beneath the shadow of its mighty fortress, we rolled along the coast before arriving early at the legendary site of Mycenae. Whether exploring the ruins or simply soaking in the views with a coffee in hand, it’s impossible not to feel the weight of history here.

From there, we pedalled on to Nemea, where the columns of the ancient sanctuary rise quietly from the countryside. Lunch in the town square alongside Heracles and his lion gave us the perfect pause before entering the heart of Greece’s famous wine country.

Vineyards stretched in every direction, broken only by olive groves, poppy fields and strawberry farms scattered across the hillsides. Then came the final challenge of the day - a climb that saved its steepest surprise for the very end as we ascended into the mountains toward Kefalari.

Waiting for us was a beautiful alpine-style village, cosy lodges and one very special family-run taverna, where Sofia made sure every rider finished the day with incredible food, warm hospitality and full hearts.

What a weekend for Max’s ReCycle Program!

From Maroubra to Woollahra, Manly to Bayview, Lane Cove to Hornsby, Balmain to Berkeley Park - Max and Sam spent the weekend criss-crossing Sydney collecting donated bikes for ReCycle.

Every stop meant another bike saved, another generous supporter met, and another future rider getting a chance they otherwise wouldn’t have had.

The bikes were all brought back to Bike Odyssey HQ, loaded into Bike Odyssey’s old van - now proudly donated to Max and the ReCycle program - before Max drove them all the way back to Young for the kids waiting patiently for their new wheels.

Huge thanks to everyone who donated bikes, time, encouragement and support. This is community in action.
