I’ve stayed at The Calile quite a few times, and I always love it. But here’s what I tell my clients before booking:

1. The weather is everything.

The main attraction here is the pool. People spend hours swimming, having drinks, listening to the DJ, and just relaxing. It has this special resort vibe that makes you feel like you’re far away from home. The pool is heated and there are heaters around, so cooler temperatures are fine. But sunshine definitely makes the experience.

2. Pool chairs can be hard to get

If you want a sunbed, get there early. If they’re all taken, don’t stress. There are plenty of other places to sit, and spots usually become available throughout the day.

3. The people make the atmosphere

One thing I really love about The Calile is the crowd. People are friendly, relaxed, and genuinely seem happy to be there. It adds a lot to the overall experience.

4. Stay local for dinner

Don’t rush off somewhere else. James Street is one of Brisbane’s best dining precincts, with great restaurants and bars just a short walk away. And breakfast by the pool is a must.

Prices usually range from around $550 to $2,000+ per night depending on the room type and dates.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely.

Just book well in advance, especially on weekends and during school holidays.

Tonight Air Canada celebrated 10 years of direct flights between Brisbane and Vancouver.

It’s amazing to think how much Brisbane has changed in those 10 years. And this flight is still connecting Australia with one of my favourite countries, Canada.

Grateful to be part of the Envoyage network , which makes opportunities like this possible.

How has May been for you?

More and more travellers are looking for experiences, not just destinations.

The trips you will talk about years later are rarely the hotel room or the buffet breakfast. They’re the moments that surprise you, challenge you, or show you a different way of seeing the world.

This is exactly the kind of travel I love helping you plan.

If you’re looking for something beyond the standard holiday, send me a DM.

One of my favourite local walks on the Gold Coast starts at the southern end of Burleigh Heads, at the entrance to Burleigh Head National Park.

Just follow the signs. One side of the loop goes along the ocean, and the other takes you back through the hill and rainforest. It is very easy to navigate, and signs are everywhere.

Ocean views, rainforest, little hidden beaches… and usually a coffee after.

Sometimes small local adventures feel just as good as a big trip.

ChatGPT is amazing for travel inspiration.

But terrible for actual travel planning.

Why?

Because travel isn’t about finding 100 options.
It’s about choosing the RIGHT one.

As a travel advisor, I use ChatGPT too. But I combine it with real destination knowledge, hotel experience, local contacts, and all the things AI can’t tell you.

What’s your experience with this?

One perfect day in Kuala Lumpur (if you only have a stopover)

Save this for later 👇

☀️ Morning
• Start with breakfast at a local café or hotel
• Visit the Petronas Towers + KLCC Park (great for photos and a morning walk)
• Grab coffee with city views

🏙 Midday
• Visit Merdeka Square + the historic centre
• Walk through old colonial streets and explore KL’s history
• Stop at Central Market for local crafts, souvenirs & snacks

🍽 Lunch with a view
• Eat at KAWI KAWI — such a beautiful spot with amazing city views

🌿 Afternoon
• Walk through Perdana Botanical Gardens
• Visit the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia if you love culture/history

➡️ Kuala Lumpur is so underrated for a stopover. Food, culture, history, beautiful hotels, shopping… and honestly worth staying 1–2 nights instead of just seeing the airport.

And no… despite what many think, it is not dangerous and I actually felt super safe here.

PS: the “behind bars” photo on the cover?
It’s from a museum exhibit.

Read till the end for #5 👀 5 unpopular things I do for you as a travel advisor

1. I tell you to do less, not more.
Overpacked itineraries can ruin a trip.

2. I will tell you right away if your idea is not working.
If you choose wrong season, too much moving, unrealistic expectations… I’ll be honest and direct. I do not need your money, I need you to have good experience.

3. I only recommend hotels that fit your travel style.
Not my commission. Not marketing hype. You.

4. I usually only give 3 hotel options to choose from.
Everything is personalised, so no overwhelming lists of 20 hotels.

❗️5. I care more about how your trip feels than how it looks on Instagram. I only recommend hotels I’ve personally stayed at, so I know they’ll actually work for you.

DM me and I’ll help you plan a trip that feels right for you.

After spending time there… I honestly think Turkey is one of the most underrated destinations in Australia.

Here’s why 👇🏼

• Direct flights from Sydney to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines (great quality airline similar level as Singapore Airlines)

• You still get everything we love about Europe: history, old buildings, tiny streets, coffee shops, museums and that beautiful “walking around all day” feeling

• Istanbul is magic — rooftop views, hidden streets, local cafes, markets and sunsets over the Bosphorus

• Beautiful coastline with beaches, yachts, beach clubs and luxury resorts (Bodrum surprised me so much)

• Luxury is much more affordable compared to Europe — from boutique hotels and cave stays in Cappadocia to ultra-luxury resorts

• Prices are significantly better than Italy, Greece or France (especially hotels, food, private tours and luxury stays)

• Very safe, comfortable and easy for tourists to travel around

• And honestly? It feels like Europe… just with better value and fewer crowds in many places

Turkey feels like history + beach holiday + luxury + culture… all in one trip.

Would you choose Turkey over Europe?
