Imagine flying for 11 days straight without eating a single bite 😮. A five month old bar tailed godwit named B6 just proved a bird can do exactly that. It launched from Alaska and flew nonstop over open ocean for 8425 miles until it landed safely in Tasmania Australia. No stops for food. No water. No rest. Just wings beating for 265 straight hours.
Scientists from the US Geological Survey and the Max Planck Institute tracked B6 using a tiny solar powered satellite tag. Before the flight the young bird shrank its own digestive organs to save energy and store more fat 🪶. It is a reminder that some of the smallest creatures carry the biggest endurance inside them. If a five month old bird can cross an entire ocean without stopping what is stopping us from pushing our own limits 🌏.
