The Burra & Goyder Visitor Information Centre is getting a mini makeover — our beloved verandah is getting some well-deserved attention. That means from Tuesday 29 April, you’ll find us just across the road in the Council Chambers at the Regional Council of Goyder.

Don’t worry — we’re not going far, and it’s business as usual once we’re in! That includes all our regular services, and yes, you can still pick up your Burra Heritage Passport and start unlocking local history.

A quick heads up: we’ll be closed for the day on Monday 28 April to help with the move. But from Tuesday, we’ll be back in action — ready to help you plan your Burra adventures with a smile.

Pop in, say hi, and check out our new (temporary) home!

It was a pleasure to welcome Hon Minister Zoe Bettison MP – Minister for Tourism – to the Burra & Goyder Visitor Information Centre this morning. Pictured here with our Team Leader Sue, the Minister had the chance to meet part of our small but mighty team who warmly greet over 20,000 visitors through our doors each year.

Minister Bettison also learned more about the iconic Burra Heritage Passport Tour – one of South Australia's longest-running self-guided tourism experiences, which has been unlocking the secrets of our historic township since 1979.

With up to 10,000 visitors collecting a key to the town each year, it's a powerful reminder of the enduring appeal and economic value of heritage tourism in Burra, especially as we edge closer to UNESCO World Heritage listing.

Thanks for popping in, Minister Bettison - you're welcome anytime!

No more lunch boxes to pack! The first school holidays of the year are here, and all you need to pack are your bags!

Just two hours north of Adelaide, Burra and surrounds offer the perfect short break for curious kids and memory-making families.

Start the journey with our friends at Anlaby Station — South Australia’s oldest merino stud. With guided homestead and garden tours every Wednesday and Sunday at 10am (complete with Devonshire tea!), it’s a magical step back in time.

Next stop: Eudunda, hometown of beloved author Colin Thiele. While many know Storm Boy, the locals cherish Sun on the Stubble and The Valley Between — stories set right here in the landscape he grew up in. Follow the ‘Gustav and his Dog’ trail and visit the Colin Thiele statue in Centenary Gardens.

Then it’s just half an hour to Burra — where the next adventure begins.

Unlock the Burra Heritage Passport
Pick up the key at the Burra & Goyder Visitor Information Centre and explore 11 incredible heritage sites over 48 hours — from mines to old gaols and hidden tunnels.

Wander Burra’s charming streets and browse a treasure trove of antique stores — perfect for little explorers and grown-up collectors alike.

Refuel at one of Burra’s cosy coffee spots, where country charm meets seriously good coffee.

Make the most of your 48-hour passport and stay the night.
The Burra Caravan and Camping Grounds sit right on the banks of the Burra Creek, with a fantastic playground just steps away and lots of friendly ducks always ready for a snack.

And did you know? You can now hire electric bikes from the caravan park — what a fun and easy way to explore all the town has to offer.

Prefer something boutique? Head to https://www.visitburra.com/accommodation/ and scan through the many accomodation options or pop to Paxton Square Precinct Cottages — a collection of beautifully restored, heritage-listed miner’s cottages that are full of character and comfort.

Congratulations to Jodie and the team at That Country Store on 10 incredible years in business!

A true beacon in the heart of Burra’s main street, the store is more than just a local favourite, it’s a reflection of everything we love about this town. Welcoming, creative, and full of heart.

Over the past decade, That Country Store has graced the glossy pages of Country Style magazine and become a proud ambassador for Burra and surrounds. Jodie’s passion for the region shines through in everything she does, always championing our town and putting the people who live, work, play and visit here first.

Here’s cheers, Jodie, to ten years of service with a smile, we salute you!

Can’t head north this winter? No worries — there’s plenty of magic out here in Goyder country. ✨

If your usual winter road trip’s a no-go thanks to the floods, why not head to Burra instead? The skies are big, the roads are open, and it’s the perfect place to roll in with the caravan and stay a while.

The Dare’s Hill Circuit is a self-drive loop full of rolling hills, saltbush plains, and old towns with stories to tell. It’s the kind of drive where you wind the windows down, take it slow, and soak it all in.

📲 Download the Discover Goyder app before you go — it’s like having a local in the passenger seat, guiding you along the way.

Pack a thermos, cue the country tunes, and hit the road — less traffic, more stars, and a good dose of country hospitality.

Autumn’s here and Burra’s showing off again 🍂 The trees are turning gorgeous shades of red and gold, and there’s a crispness in the air that makes everything feel just a little more magical.

As the days get shorter, don’t forget to wind your clocks back one hour tonight.

Here’s to soaking up that last golden sunset of daylight saving time.

75 Years in the Making – Congratulations, Team Robbie!

What a moment for Robertstown Bowls Club—after 75 years, they’ve finally secured their first Division 1 premiership! The entire Goyder community is beyond proud of this incredible achievement.

Robertstown is a small but mighty town, and this team embodies everything that makes country sport so special—dedication, camaraderie, and an unbreakable community spirit. Some players travel over an hour just to be part of this club, and that says it all.

A huge congratulations to Team Robbie—well done!

Back to Burra – 180 Years! 🎉

It’s here! The program for Back to Burra – 180 Years!

This May, the community of Burra is bringing you a fantastic line up of immersive and fascinating events to honour Burra’s 180-year history.

The original Back to Burra event took place in 1925, and one hundred years on, we are proud to say the enduring community and spirit are as strong as ever. This is a time to come together, reconnect, and celebrate everything that makes Burra so special.

Plan your itinerary now and explore the full program at the Visit Burra website:

https://www.visitburra.com/events/back-to-burra-180-years-celebration/

Or drop into the Burra & Goyder Visitor Information Centre for a printed copy.

Also, how fabulous is the logo! It’s an incredible artist’s impression by talented local Anthea Wright, inspired by the original Back to Burra town banner that adorned each entrance to Burra in 1925, seen here in the original black and white image. A beautiful tribute to our history as we celebrate Back to Burra – 180 Years!

Please share this event far and wide with anyone who has a connection to Burra and the surrounding region—everyone is welcome as the community celebrate this historic occasion.
