The Burra Regional Art Gallery is presenting its Art of the Flower & Garden exhibition from 22nd October to the 18th December.
And the timing couldn't be better. The exhibition officially launches at 4pm on Saturday 24th October, just as the day's Goyder Gardens visits come to an end.

So, after a day of gathering inspiration from local gardens, why not pop into the gallery and see how flowers and gardens inspire artists too?

Last call for Expressions of Interest!

Have you ever imagined running a dining experience with a little history on the side?

Meet Edie (ED22), a beautifully restored 1917 Commonwealth Railways Dining Car, proudly sitting at the historic Burra Railway Station.

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of local volunteers, Edie has been lovingly brought back to life. Now, there's an exciting opportunity for someone to take the next step and manage and operate a unique dining experience aboard this remarkable piece of railway history.

Tucked away in Market Square is a little cottage with a story to tell.

It was once home to Andrew Wade, a Burra tailor, who spent many years working from his chair beneath the window while his family lived in the rooms behind his shop.

But Andrew’s story has a tragic ending.
He died in his early 50s, reportedly in the very chair beneath that window where he had spent so many years at work, leaving behind his wife and four children.

And sadly, tragedy would visit the family again. Around a decade later, Andrew’s wife died after her dress caught fire while she was at her daughter’s home.

Today, the little building survives as the Market Square Museum, preserving a glimpse into the lives of ordinary people who called Burra home.

But this is only a snippet of the stories waiting behind Burra’s locked doors…
Pick up a Burra Heritage Passport from the Burra & Goyder Visitor Information Centre and explore the buildings, stories and people that shaped our town.

Because sometimes Burra’s most fascinating history is hiding behind an ordinary-looking door.

Take a drive to the World’s End…

Thankfully, the name is a little more dramatic than the journey!
The World’s End Drive takes you through some beautiful Goyder country, where rolling farmland gives way to rugged hills, native vegetation and the winding Burra Creek. Stop along the way at Worlds End Gorge, a particularly scenic part of the landscape between Burra and Robertstown.

There’s history hiding out here too. The little settlement of Lapford was surveyed beside Burra Creek in 1877, but never really developed into the town that was planned. The wider World’s End community later had its own post office, school and church.

So pack a picnic, take your time and enjoy a drive where history and nature share the road.

Gosh, October has been busy! And this weekend is no exception.

There’s plenty happening around Burra and Goyder, with Chamber Music Adelaide at the Burra Railway Station, the community-created Burra Rhapsody at the Burra Town Hall, and the beautiful Anlaby Spring Festival across the weekend.

Music, gardens, history and another great excuse to get out and explore. What will you be heading along to this weekend?

There’s going to be plenty of noise coming from the Burra Town Hall on Saturday 24th October, and this is one time we’re definitely encouraging it!

The 2026 Battle of the Bands, presented by the Goyder Youth Advisory Committee and Northern Sound System, will bring 10 local bands to the stage for an afternoon of live music.

Come along, find your spot in the crowd and cheer on some talented young musicians as they take to the stage. Whether you know someone performing or simply love live music, a good crowd can make all the difference, so let’s give them one!

It’s free, all ages, and there’ll even be a sausage sizzle to keep you fuelled.

And with Goyder Gardens and the Burra Markets happening that same weekend, there are plenty of reasons to make a day or even a whole weekend of it in Burra.

Looking for a beautiful country day out? The Anlaby Spring Festival returns on 17th & 18th October, opening the gates to one of our region’s remarkable historic properties.

Established in 1839, Anlaby is celebrating 187 years in 2026. Spend the day wandering through ten acres of rare and historic gardens, browse local stallholders, enjoy live music and food, or settle in for a Gin or Ch*****ne while soaking up the spring atmosphere. Garden tours will also be running throughout the weekend.

You can even pre-book a Devonshire Tea or lunch and make a proper day of it.

With Goyder Gardens coming up on the 24th & 25th October, now is the time to grab your tickets and start planning a gorgeous day out in Burra.

Start Saturday morning with a wander through the Burra Markets, perhaps grab a coffee, then spend the day strolling through beautiful local gardens, meeting the gardeners behind them and gathering plenty of inspiration for your own patch at home.

And why stop at the garden gate? The Water Garden exhibition at the Burra Regional Art Gallery fits the theme rather perfectly, while the Bon Accord Mining Museum and Burra Railway Station are well worth adding to your day for a little local history.

A musical weekend is coming to Burra!

On Friday 16th October, Adelaide Baroque presents All Lines Lead Here at the Burra Railway Station. Four musicians will take you through five centuries of music, from Renaissance song and Bach to Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and beyond. The concert runs from 8pm–9pm, with tickets available at the door for $25 or $20 concession.

Then on Saturday the 17th October, those musicians join the people of Burra for something completely different... the Burra Rhapsody.

Created by local composer Jodie O'Regan, this new work has turned the sounds of our town into music, from teacups and teaspoons at the railway station and jingling Heritage Passport keys to local children singing, birds, cafés and even instruments created by the Men's Shed. The result is a musical portrait created in, by and for Burra, culminating in a live performance and recording at the Burra Town Hall.

Burra Rhapsody is free and begins at 7pm on Saturday 17th October, although bookings are recommended as places are limited.

Two nights, two historic Burra venues and a wonderful celebration of music so why not make a weekend of it?
