From May to November, thousands of whales journey along our coastline on one of the longest mammal migrations on Earth, travelling up to 13,000km from Antarctica to the warm waters of the Kimberley and back again.
As the 2026 migration begins, weโre once again relying on the eyes and experience of WAโs fishing and boating community. Your reports play a vital role, many successful disentanglements have only been possible thanks to those people who quickly reported sightings, stayed nearby, and provided accurate locations for DBCA responders.

Easily log sightings of whales, dolphins, turtles and more. The app automatically captures GPS location, date, and time, helping researchers better understand migration patterns and reduce the risk of entanglements.
Download the app via the DPIRD website or app stores and be part of protecting WAโs incredible marine life this migration season.
