If you’ve got a day to explore Toowoomba, here’s how we’d spend it. 🌿

☕ Start with breakfast at Ground Up Espresso, tucked away in one of the city’s laneways.

🎨 Take a wander through the C*D and check out some of Toowoomba’s street art.

🍴 Stop for lunch at Café Valetta, with its stained-glass windows and leafy garden setting.

🌸 Afterwards, have a wander through Laurel Bank Park before heading to Cobb+Co Museum for historic carriages, local history and interactive science displays.

🌅 Finish the day at Picnic Point and take in the views across the Lockyer Valley.

It’s an easy way to see a few different sides of Toowoomba without trying to fit everything into one day.

📌 Save this itinerary for your next Toowoomba trip.

🌴 Planning a Cairns holiday? Here’s a 9-day road trip you can steal.

There’s so much more to a Cairns trip than staying in the city and doing a couple of day tours.

This itinerary starts in Cairns before heading north through Kuranda, Palm Cove, Ellis Beach, Port Douglas and Mossman, then loops inland through Mareeba and the Atherton Tablelands before finishing back in Cairns.

Along the way you’ll get:

🚂 Kuranda Scenic Railway + Skyrail
🌴 Beaches and coastal drives
🐊 Wildlife encounters
🤿 A Great Barrier Reef day
🌿 Mossman Gorge and rainforest
☕ Tablelands food and produce
💦 Crater lakes, swimming holes and waterfalls
🥾 Walks and plenty of places to stop along the way

We’ve planned it so the trip gradually moves through the region rather than having you drive back to Cairns every night.

Swipe through for the full 9-day itinerary 👉

📌 Save this for later or send it to someone who needs a Cairns holiday.

We’ve spent plenty of time exploring the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, and there are a few things we’d do differently knowing what we know now…

❌ Thinking it’s just about Maleny & Montville
They’re worth visiting, but there’s so much more beyond the two most popular towns — from waterfalls and rainforest walks to the Glass House Mountains, Mapleton and the smaller towns scattered through the hills.

❌ Trying to cram too much into one day
The Hinterland looks close together on a map, but the winding roads, walks, lookouts and towns mean you’ll enjoy it much more if you slow down and leave some room to stop along the way.

❌ Only planning for the sunny weather
The weather can be very different once you head into the hills. Pack for changing conditions and have a mix of outdoor and food-focused stops so a cloudy or rainy day doesn’t ruin your plans.

📌 Save this before your next Sunshine Coast Hinterland trip.

You know those little towns and turn-offs that don’t look like much from the road?

Sometimes they’re exactly where you should pull over.

📍 Sawtell, NSW
Easy to skip when you’re either arriving in Coffs Harbour or heading back onto the highway. But Sawtell is worth the stop for its gorgeous beach, ocean pool and lovely main street — especially if you’re ready for lunch and a swim.

📍 Red Rock, NSW
The turn-off looks pretty ordinary, but it leads to a brilliant spot for a river float or paddle. The current can get strong, so it’s better suited to older kids and adults, but on a warm afternoon it’s a great place for a dip.

📍 Wangetti, QLD
It looks like an unassuming roadside stop along the Cairns–Port Douglas drive, but pull over and you’ll find beach rocks stacked into tall cairns by visitors over the years. Stop, explore the beach and add your own tower to the collection.

📍 Tilba, NSW
Just off the highway, this character-filled little town is impossible not to explore once you stop. Give yourself a few hours — because you’ll want to wander through the shops, browse the local wares and take in all the details.

📍 Silverton, NSW
If you’re driving through Broken Hill, it’s worth the detour into Silverton — a historic silver-mining town with more personality than residents. You’ll find art, animals and even a Mad Max museum. It’s the kind of place you’ll be glad you stopped for.

Sometimes the best road trip stops are the ones you almost drove straight past.

Which one would you add to your next road trip?

Looking for a day trip from Brisbane that mixes a country town, rainforest, mountain roads and a good lunch without needing a 4WD?

Here’s how we’d spend the day:

☕ 8:30am — Breakfast in Dayboro
Start with breakfast and coffee in town, then take a little time to wander along Williams Street and browse the local shops.

🏡 9:45am — Explore Dayboro
Have a look around the historic town centre before leaving the country-town streets behind and heading into the hills.

🚗 10:30am — Drive towards Mount Mee
Follow the winding road through the hinterland towards D’Aguilar National Park. The drive is part of the experience.

🌳 11:15am — The Gantry & Piccabeen Walk
Explore The Gantry, a reminder of Mount Mee’s timber-milling history, then stretch your legs on the 1km Piccabeen Walk through rainforest and towering piccabeen palms.

🌄 12:15pm — Mountain views
Take a scenic stop around Mount Mee for views across the surrounding countryside before heading to lunch.

🍴 1:00pm — Lunch at Pitstop Cafe
Stop for lunch, coffee and a look around the collection of vintage cars and motorbikes at this quirky Mount Mee cafe.

🚗 2:30pm — Take the scenic way home
Head back towards Dayboro and Brisbane, taking your time and stopping for a final coffee or something sweet if you feel like extending the afternoon.

Country town. Rainforest. Mountain roads. Good food. Big views.

Not a bad way to spend a day.

Save this one for your next Brisbane day trip.

Cairns is one of those places that looks simple to plan… until you realise how much there actually is to do 🌴

1. Cairns is really the starting point, not the whole trip.
Some of the best things to do around Cairns are outside the city itself. Give yourself time for Cairns day trips to places like Kuranda, Palm Cove, Port Douglas, the Atherton Tablelands, Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Tropical North Queensland is incredibly spread out, and trying to squeeze everything into a couple of days can make the trip feel rushed.

2. The Great Barrier Reef is only one part of the experience.
Of course the Great Barrier Reef deserves a spot on your Cairns itinerary, but don’t build the entire trip around the coast. Head inland and you’ll find rainforest walks, waterfalls, swimming holes, mountain towns, markets, wildlife and some seriously beautiful scenic drives. The Atherton Tablelands alone could easily fill an entire day.

3. You need to plan your swimming spots properly.
Cairns and Far North Queensland might look like one giant tropical swimming playground, but not every beach, river or creek is suitable for swimming. Conditions vary throughout the year, so always check local signage and advice before getting in the water. There are plenty of incredible designated swimming spots, waterfalls and freshwater locations around the region when conditions are right.

If you’re planning a Cairns trip, Far North Queensland road trip or Tropical North Queensland holiday, don’t just search for the obvious Cairns attractions. Look into Cairns day trips, Atherton Tablelands waterfalls, Kuranda, Palm Cove, Port Douglas, Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation and Great Barrier Reef experiences before you finalise your itinerary.

Cairns is one of those destinations where the more you research, the more you realise you probably should’ve booked a few extra days 🐠☀️

ENDLESS HORIZONS. TURQUOISE WATER. ZERO COMPARISON. 🌊

Our latest PolyPins guide is live — and this one is to a place I absolutely love: The Nullarbor Plain.

It’s hard to explain the Nullarbor until you’ve seen it. Endless, treeless horizons stretching further than you can imagine… then suddenly, brilliant white beaches and impossibly blue water appear along the remote coastline.

And just when you think you’ve seen it all — whales at Head of Bight, the breathtaking Bunda Cliffs, hidden beaches and those little roadside discoveries that make a road trip unforgettable.

This is Australia at its wildest, rawest and most unexpected.

The Nullarbor is like nowhere else.

🗺️ The new guide is now live on PolyPins. Go explore.
