🚢 Ocean cruise or river cruise — which one suits YOU?

They might both involve cruising, but the experiences can be completely different!

🌊 Ocean cruising is perfect if you love having plenty happening onboard — larger ships, multiple restaurants, entertainment, pools, activities and those glorious days at sea.

🏞️ River cruising takes a different approach. Ships are smaller, the journey is heavily destination-focused and you're often docking right in or close to the towns and cities you've come to explore. Guided touring is also commonly included, depending on the cruise line and itinerary.

One gives you that big-ship holiday experience, while the other is more about immersing yourself in the destinations along the way.

And then there are those of us who think…

One river. So many ways to experience France.

When Dee travelled along the Rhône on AmaWaterways’ Colours of Provence, it was the experiences ashore that really showed just how much you can discover along the way.

From wandering through Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, tasting cheeses, pastries and regional specialties, to sipping wine amongst the vineyards of Beaujolais 🍷

There were ancient Roman ruins in Vienne, a nostalgic journey aboard the Train de l’Ardèche through the Gorge du Doux, and even an atmospheric ghost walk through the historic streets of Viviers.

As if exploring Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Salette at Mont Pipet wasn’t memorable enough, Dee’s tour guide decided to casually show off this voice. 😍

Tour guide by day, international singing career pending… 😂👏

Then came Avignon’s magnificent Papal Palace, truffle hunting in the countryside with a very enthusiastic four-legged helper 🐾, and following in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh through Arles.

And perhaps one of the most spectacular experiences of all — Les Baux-de-Provence and Carrières de Lumières, where incredible works of art are projected across the walls of a former limestone quarry. 🎨

It’s this side of river cruising that we love: not simply seeing a destination from the river, but stepping ashore and truly experiencing it.

Despite reports of low snow across parts of NSW, Jacinta’s son Jadyn has been busy testing the slopes—and judging by this footage, the conditions have certainly earned his board of approval! 😉

The NSW snow season is well and truly kicking off, so if you’ve been feeling a little frosty about booking a winter escape… perhaps this is your sign to chill out and go for it! ⛷️🏔️
