Trip Report 23 - 30 July 2026 ⚓

This final expedition before Spirit of Freedom's annual refit delivered outstanding diving conditions across both the Ribbon Reefs and Coral Sea, with excellent visibility, calm seas and an incredible diversity of marine life. Highlights included multiple dwarf minke whale sightings, including an encounter at Steve's Bommie, along with devil rays, eagle rays, potato cod, dogtooth tuna, silvertip sharks, grey reef sharks, giant trevally, Spanish mackerel, barracuda and olive sea snakes. Guests explored iconic dive sites including Lighthouse Bommie, Google Gardens, Challenger Bay, Cod Hole, The Monolith, Osprey Reef, North Horn and Flare Point.

The trip also featured a number of special milestones, with Marisol celebrating her 200th dive, Andre completing his 100th dive, Youngae reaching her 100th dive, Alvaro and Celia celebrating their honeymoon and completing their Enriched Air certification, and Allana celebrating her birthday onboard. Two full days at Osprey Reef combined with exceptional marine life encounters made for a memorable final voyage before Spirit of Freedom heads into a well earned refit period.

Dive the Reef. Help Protect It. | The Great Barrier Reef is waiting to be explored, but this time, your dives can help tell its story.

Spirit of Freedom’s 3 Night Great Reef Census Expedition combines world class diving on the legendary Ribbon Reefs with the opportunity to contribute to Citizens of the Reef’s important citizen science initiative.

Across 11 dives, including a night dive, divers will explore some of the reef’s most spectacular sites while capturing imagery that helps scientists better understand and monitor this incredible ecosystem.

From vibrant coral gardens to unforgettable marine encounters, this is more than a liveaboard adventure. It is a chance to experience the Great Barrier Reef while playing a part in protecting its future.

Departing Cairns on Thursday 19 Nov and returning Sunday 22 November 2026.
