🚨🚨Diphtheria Alert for Far North Queensland 🚨🚨

There is currently a diphtheria outbreak in the Northern Territory and Western Australia, with a small number of cases reported in Far North Queensland.

Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that can cause:
🔹Severe sore throat with a thick grey-white or black membrane in the throat
🔹Difficulty breathing
🔹Skin sores, ulcers, and infected wounds (cutaneous diphtheria)

The good news is that vaccination is highly effective at preventing severe illness.
✅Protect yourself and your family:
• Keep cuts, sores, and insect bites clean and covered
• Seek medical advice for non-healing wounds, skin ulcers, or persistent sore throats
• Check if your diphtheria booster is up to date
Who should consider checking their vaccination status?
👶Children – ensure childhood vaccinations are up to date
👩👨Adults and teenagers – especially if it has been more than 10 years since your last booster
🤰Pregnant women
🚅Travellers
🏡People living in or visiting remote communities

We are incredibly proud of Gage and the impact he continues to make in our pharmacy and community. From his journey as a pharmacy assistant and dispensing technician to becoming an exceptional intern pharmacist, Gage consistently demonstrates leadership, compassion, and innovation.

His dedication extends beyond daily patient care — inspiring future pharmacists, supporting expanded scope services, and introducing our naloxone nasal spray program to help prevent opioid overdose and improve patient safety within the community.

Gage is also passionate about advocating for men’s health, sexual health and continually looks for ways to improve access to care for our patients.

One of the things we admire most about Gage is his genuine commitment to helping others. Whether staying back late to support our walk-in clinic or guiding patients to the care they need, he always goes above and beyond.
