After a very busy schedule, our time in Port Moresby has come to an end.

One hell of a tour made even sweeter by the generosity and help we received by the countless amount of legends we have interacted with over the past few weeks. Too many to name and you all know who you are, so a big thank you to you.

The national titles were an extremely successful event by all accounts and we feel very privileged to be able to take part in such a well run and professional competition. Even better, we managed a bit of success.

Angler Andrew Grace who fished with us for the last two days managed to take out best angler with 2 blue marlin releases on 30lb.

Team Trukai who fished with us for 2 days managed to secure the release section on 30lb line class with 2x Blue marlin release, 1x sailfish release, 1x Yellowfin release and 1x Dolphinfish release. This section was our main goal and acts as a qualifying event for the world offshore championship held in Costa Rica 2025. So a big congratulations to Patrick, Andrew and the rest of the Trukai team.

After the full 9 days fishing (4 teams + shootout) we came in 2nd place for champion boat. Close behind Cairns boat Adrenaline so well done to Tony and Jake for an epic campaign.

As for now, we left the dock at 330am loaded with fuel and stores for the trip back to Cairns. Weather looks all time and we are currently on course for the Eastern Fields where we hope for more blue marlin, yellowfins and especially some big doggies.

One last time, huge thank you to the Port Moresby Game Fishing Club and everyone else who helped us out during our stay. Can't speak highly enough of the place and we certainly look forward to coming back.

Hellraiser on tour!

After making the crossing from Cairns to Port Moresby last week, the boys and the boat are fit and ready to take part in the Papua New Guinea National Fishing Titles starting tomorrow. 9 days of fishing put on by the Port Moresby Game Fishing Club.

January in Far North Queensland.

After the extremely damaging floods in late December, we were stoked to enjoy a January full of sunshine and light winds.

Started the year with 6 days of topwater fishing north of lizard Island where we made good use of the oily calm conditions. GTs were the main target with a healthy mix of by-catch including XOS Trout, buffalo emporer (Ryan's 2nd on topwater) and even a Maori Sea Perch for our man Ninja. An extremely rare catch for any topwater angler. Plenty of encounters with wrasse as well over th3 6 day trip, however, none successful!

Outside of that, our month has been steady with research based trips to Princess Charlotte Bay and day trips chasing reds and mackerel around our local reefs.

Going into February with plenty of rain on the radar. Just hoping the light winds stay on for a few more weeks yet!

With 2024 well and truly under way we have finally found some time to start sorting through GoPro content from our 2023 Heavy Tackle Season. And what a season it was.

Captain Rhys Younan-Wise did an outstanding job behind the helm with crewman Eric Strauss And George Kittow making light work of the downstairs duties. All up the boys managed 87 Black Marlin releases.

As far as size, it went something like this

500lb-700lb: 12 fish

700-950lb: 5 fish

950lb+ : 3 fish

Special mention to Captain Scotty Thorington for standing in as captain for 7 days and absolutely crushing it. Much appreciated s***t.

And last but not least, a huge thank you to all of our clients who continue to fish us with season after season. We look forward to having you back on board soon.

After a successful wet season back home in Cooktown we're excited to say we have relocated the Hellraiser 2 back down to Cairns until the start of our heavy tackle season in September.

With our yearly maintenance completed and the current run of good weather, we're all busting to get out to the reef and give our customers a trip of a lifetime.

From mackerel, to marlin, to bottom dwellers, there's plenty on offer this time of year!
