Another great year for Children of the Lake. I started sponsoring Aury in 2015 and this year she graduated university. I am so proud of her efforts. She will be a Secondary Teacher and be able to give back to the community who educated her. That was the vision that Urias Gonzalez and I had from the beginning, back in 2010, that the students we sponsor would return to the community and give back. We hoped this would create a circle of support for those in greatest need. I have attached some photos of the graduation ceremony.
The year for our other students has been fantastic as well. Veronica is in her first year of university studying accounting. Thank you to her sponsors, Ann and Peter, Ren Hine and Robin Schulte. We have been sponsoring Veronica since 2016 and we are very proud that she is continuing her education at a university level.
Due to our commitment fo the education of females, Johana is our baby of the group. She is still in high school and is sponsored by Vicki Mondora. Vicki has been an ongoing sponsor, along with Robin, Ann and Peter, and Kay and Ron Wolski, since 2016. This financial commitment of $350 a year or $15 a fortnight has changed the lives of these children. Giving them a blessing that we take for granted, education.
I want to also say a big thank you for all the efforts that Urias and Clarita Cabrera Gonzalez do for our students in Guatemala. Urias spends hours travelling to remote locations to ensure the students are going ok. They are the most amazing people I've ever met. That is why I consider them my family. I hope to get back and see you both again soon.
