Earlier this month, we hosted our first school group for Term 2, with Year 10 students from Carey Baptist Grammar School, arriving at Wambiana Station for the final leg of their three-week expedition to northern Queensland as part of the Carey Zero program.

The program is designed to empower students to develop resilience, build character and enhance connection to themselves, their peers and the world around them.

With a combination of hands-on learning, presentations and experiences unique to our environment, students got a taste of what it is like to live, raise a family and produce beef on a cattle station in North Qld that has been working with nature for over 100 years. We particularly appreciated their assistance in clearing debris off fences from flooding we experienced earlier in the year – many hands did make light work. We hope that the billy tea and smoko down at the Campaspe River was a satisfying reward!

It is refreshing to see students from the heart of Melbourne, immerse themselves in the experience, ask insightful questions and show appreciation for the opportunity to undertake the program and we feel privileged to be able to provide this opportunity.
