An enjoyable tour with a lovely family from the US, and saw three Cassowaries in total! I have not done many tours since the big flood, and this reminded me how much I enjoy it.

NOAH RANGE OPENING TO ALL TRAFFIC THURSDAY 28 MARCH 2024

Noah Range on Cape Tribulation Road will be opened to all vehicles Thursday 28 March 2024 in time for Easter. We are initially planning for the road to be open from 6am to 7:30pm.

We are still in the wet season, so access will be dependent on no further heavy rain events however, the installation of concrete barriers at the base of the landslip has improved resilience and reduced the frequency and duration of closures. It was encouraging to see on the weekend and yesterday, that even with rainfall of more than 100mm, the installation of concrete barriers has enabled the range to remain open. Contractors are in the process of improving the running surface over the temporary pavement hump. Geofabric will be installed, followed by a layer of rock and 150mm of type 2 gravel. This will help improve drainage and ensure the road is not slippery, despite moisture from wet conditions.

Community Reference Group
A community group will be created to facilitate two-way communications between the community and Council while repairs to Cape Tribulation Road are planned and implemented. The intention is for the group to help inform arrangements such as opening hours and/or to raise any issues with traffic control, truck movements, etc. Expressions of Interest to become a member of the reference group will be released tomorrow. Day 92

Day 88

Hopefully everyone watched A Current Affair last night. It was confronting watching it; hard to believe it has been so so long, and even harder to believe our outgoing Mayor is still defending the timelines.
For the record we have been told we 'might' be open for Easter, But that, we were told is VERY weather dependent. And if you believe BOM, the monsoon is back this weekend. But the road won't be 'Business as usual' open. There will be a single lane at Alexandra Range where the wait will be considerable (4.5km section), and several sections of gravel, with one place where you have to drive OVER a landslide.
I am now worried, we have not seen a gas supplier, and there will be large multi national suppliers that will decide not to cross the landslide. Some bus companies will make the same decision. Blithe statements from our Mayor 'the road will be open', don't even get close to the truth of the real situation.
The story only focused on businesses and there is very real pain right across the whole community. Hopefully more media attention will no come here so our story can finally be heard.
I would like to thank A Current Affair for their professionalism and empathy in producing and airing this story.

Make sure you watch A Current Affair tomorrow night.

Day 87

Day 83

Yesterday was the day of the 'big meeting'. Residents had been busy and they were greeted by five hand made signs on the main road. 'Fail to plan, plan to fail'. 'Welcome DSC, 2nd visit in 86 days' etc.

In a nutshell the meeting said one lane access through all worksites will be restored to 6am to 6pm in around 4 weeks, in time for Easter unless rain intervenes. (and it is POURING now). Perhaps by mid year the long single lane on Alexandra Range will be reduced to just the south side.

No apology for not working in December. No talk about the lost Mendi Constructions contract. Just talk and talk and talk about how much money is available, precious little of which is trickling down to the community. If they can just guarantee that I won't go broke and support my full time staff then I can wait 12 months.

To add insult, Smarty Grants (NOT aptly named) gave me three business days to provide a heap of data including accountant certified P&L and cash flow forecasts out to 2025! There are some hateful and stupid bureaucrats in this country.....

Last Sunday, Francis Walker and her family went for a look at country on the Bloomfield Track. They were shocked by the size of the flood and the damage they saw.
These photos are all by Francis Walker, The road is not yet open, it has just cleared so engineers can access it.
