On Thursday afternoon, the flood situation across northern Queensland and parts of the Northern Territory remains dynamic.

A Major Flood Warning remains active for the Flinders River. Near major flooding is possible at Richmond from Friday, and major flooding is already being observed at Walkers Bend.

Moderate Flood Warnings are in place for the Bohle, Haughton, Western and Norman Rivers.

Minor and General Flood Warnings include for the Murray, Georgina, Diamantina and Cloncurry Rivers, and Stuart Creek near Townsville.

Additionally, a broad Flood Watch is still current for both Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days is likely to cause continued and dangerous river level rises across the Flood Watch area, as well as localised flooding. Catchments are wet following recent rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall.

Communities are encouraged to stay up to date with the latest warnings and forecasts at www.bom.gov.au or on the BOM Weather app.

Flood Watches and Flood Warnings cover large parts of Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Monsoon rain and thunderstorms are forecast to increase from this weekend, which may result in significant flooding.

A broad Flood Watch (in the blue shades in the image below) extends from the eastern Queensland coast, through the west of the state and into the Northern Territory.

At the same time, flooding is expected for several catchments. A Major Flood Warning is current for the Flinders River in western Queensland. Moderate Flood Warnings have been issued for the Cloncurry and Western Rivers, while a Minor Flood Warning is current for the Norman and Gilbert Rivers.

Heavy rain in the coming days may cause rivers and creeks to rise, and communities to be cut off.

Keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings at www.bom.gov.au or the BOM Weather app.
