Before you book that flight, there’s one important thing you should check:

Your travel facility.

Australian permanent residents can generally remain in Australia indefinitely. However, your ability to leave and return to Australia as a permanent resident depends on whether your visa has a valid travel facility. (Immigration and citizenship Website)

A simple pre-travel checklist:

✅ Check your visa details in VEVO
✅ Confirm your travel facility is still valid
✅ Check before you book your flights
✅ If your travel facility has expired or is about to expire, look into your available options before travelling

⚠️ Important: Permanent residency and the right to re-enter Australia from overseas are not exactly the same thing. PR holders generally do not have an automatic right of entry from overseas without a valid travel facility. (Immigration and citizenship Website)

From 19 September 2026, Australia introduced new processing priorities under Ministerial Directions 121 and 122, replacing the previous framework.

The new priority structure places particular focus on applications connected with:

👩‍🏫 Teaching
🌾 Agriculture
🐟 Aquaculture & Fishing
⛏️ Resources
🛡️ Defence & Law Enforcement

For Subclass 482, the Specialist Skills stream also has a designated priority.

📌 Important: Processing priority is not the same as visa eligibility or visa approval. Your occupation, visa subclass, location at lodgement and other circumstances may affect where your application sits in the processing framework.
