ONE DAY TO GO! 🎣
Tomorrow the festivities begin for the 60th Anniversary Cairns Black Marlin Tournament. And before everything gets super busy, let us remember why we’re all here in the first place.
This celebration goes right back to one extraordinary fish.
On 25 September 1966, Captain George Bransford and deckhand Richard Obach landed a 1,064lb black marlin, the first 1,000lb black marlin in Australian waters. That fish made headlines around the world and helped put Cairns firmly on the international game fishing map.
What followed was the creation of an industry. Anglers came (and still do!) from all over the world. Careers, friendships, families and lifetimes of stories were built around Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef and the giant black marlin that return here each year.
And now, 60 years later, here we are. READY TO FISH!!
One day to go. Let the 60th Anniversary celebrations begin.*🖤🎣
