🎿 Greg’s Roving Snow Report – 2026 Season Wrap

Well, with some of the resorts in NSW and Victoria now closing for the season and winter finally giving way to spring, I thought it was time for the Roving Reporter to look back at 2026...

❄️ What we hoped for
We all look forward to winter in the mountains — cool alpine air, crisp bluebird days and, of course, fluffy white snow!

Winter brings so many alpine adventures, and one of the wonderful things about the Snowy Mountains is the real change of seasons. Each season brings something different to discover and enjoy, and the mountains come alive with adventures for everyone.

🌨️ What actually happened
This year certainly wasn't an easy start.
Unusual weather patterns made it really difficult for winter to get going, and there is no getting away from the fact that 2026 was not one of our better snow seasons.
But the good news is… winter did arrive!

😊 The good bits
Over the years we've had good seasons and not-so-good seasons, but one thing remains consistent — people come to the Snowy Mountains and have a great time.

Families and friends still enjoyed getting away, having some alpine fun and making memories together.

Jindabyne was as busy as ever, with people enjoying coffee, dining out, having a drink at the pub, catching up with friends and sharing stories.
And there were still plenty of smiling faces around the place.

🌬️ The challenging bits
The weather certainly wasn't always kind, with plenty of rain and some very strong winds.
That's part of alpine life, but what was a little unusual this year were the temperatures, which made snowmaking particularly challenging.
I have to say, both Thredbo and Perisher did a fantastic job of making the most of what they had — keeping the season going and preparing their runs for the many Interschools races and other events throughout the winter season.

🎿 What did Greg actually see on the mountain?
Well… it wasn't all doom and gloom — and goodness knows, we have enough of that around these days!
There is always an opportunity to embrace challenging conditions, and sometimes those days turn out to be some of the best.

“I had some really good snow days, enjoyed some great runs and reacquainted myself with runs I hadn't skied for a while.”

“I saw plenty of smiling faces, had some great conversations on the chairlifts and, all in all, enjoyed some wonderful days on the mountain”’

So, from my perspective, “there were definitely some good days to be had in the 2026 season.”

🙏 A genuine thank you
A big thank you to everyone at Thredbo and Perisher for continuing to do the absolute best you could in some very difficult conditions and for continuing to provide some spring ski fun.

Keeping the mountains operating, preparing the runs and creating opportunities for people to enjoy winter takes an enormous amount of work, and it certainly didn't go unnoticed.

So, was 2026 the winter we all hoped for? Probably not.

Were there still some great days, plenty of smiling faces and lots of alpine adventures? Absolutely!

I have posted some pics of the great blue bird days I enjoyed as a reminder in the final wrap - it was fun and some great runs were enjoyed that were not expected and we all need a good news story !

"And that's the good news I’m taking away from the season."

🏔️ What's next?
Winter might be winding down, but the mountains certainly aren't.
Spring is arriving, the trails are calling, and the Roving Reporter’s adventures are definitely not finished yet!

And if you're already thinking about winter 2027, our Residence calendar is now opening up for those peak dates.

🌿 Greg's Roving Spring Report – Sunday 30 August 🌿

Greg, host at Andrea's White House, decided that after such a beautiful bluebird day on Saturday, it was time for the Roving Reporter to officially start thinking about spring in the Snowy Mountains.

Spring here means you can still enjoy some snow fun in the morning, then come home for lunch and spend the afternoon exploring everything the mountains have to offer.

So, naturally, Greg has expanded his role description!

His mission?
✔️ Check the spring snow conditions
✔️ Discover great afternoon adventures
✔️ Find beautiful places to explore
✔️ Report back honestly!

Greg's latest discovery?

A perfect nature office at the Thredbo River.

A walk around Bullocks Flat is a wonderful way to welcome spring — the fast-flowing Thredbo River, sunshine glinting on the water, birds singing and warm spring sunshine.

And Greg's verdict?

“Walking next to the Thredbo River is super relaxing.
Quiet, birds singing, water flowing, sunshine… what more could you want?”

We think he's onto something. 😊

Stay tuned for more Roving Reporter adventures as we head into spring — from snow fun and alpine walks to hiking, bird watching, fishing and simply enjoying the beautiful Snowy Mountains.

Feel like enjoying a spring alpine adventure?

Come and enjoy the mountains, then return to a warm, relaxing space at Andrea's White House and reconnect with those most important to you.

🎿 Greg's Roving Snow Report – Perisher 27 August

Greg, host at Andrea's White House, was up early this morning, rugged up and ready to investigate the conditions at Perisher after the wild weather this week.

His mission?
✔️ Check the snow
✔️ Check the rain damage
✔️ Find out how good or bad the snow cover really is
✔️ Report back honestly

First stop... ski tube. Next stop... Perisher Front Valley!

Greg's Verdict:

🌬️ Surprise sunny bluebird day – snow is looking good!
🎿 Ski runs are fun – cover is good – snow guns have done a great job restoring the slopes.
❄️ Uncrowded, great snow coverage.
😊 Perisher’s snow guns and groomers have done a fantastic job after the recent storms. Coverage is really good considering the amount of rain we had on Tuesday – lots of smiling faces enjoying life out here today!

Greg's final verdict:

“Worth checking it out – really enjoyed the ski fun today. Actually, it was just as good as other 'good seasons'. Really great to hit the snow today, and I plan to go again tomorrow!”

Want to enjoy some fun snow time and come home to a warm, relaxing space after a day on the slopes?
