🛶 How we're recreating history 100 years on... 👀
What do you think this old photograph has to do with one of Cradle Mountain's earliest tourism pioneers, and our company?
A lot, actually.
Around 100 vears ago, visitors to Cradle Mountain were alreadv explorina this wild part of Tasmania bv boat. Gustav Weindorfer - the man famously associated with putting Cradle Mountain on the map and fighting to protect it - helped introduce visitors to a place that, at the time, was far more remote than is today.
And while people now come here to hike, canyon, see wildlife and seek summer snow. There was a time when exploring by boat was part of the adventure too.
Fast forward roughly a century.
And today, we're bringing a little piece of that history back to life.
At Cradle Mountain Canyons, we explore the iconic Dove Lake in something pretty special - handcrafted King Billy Pine kayaks.
Each of our incredible boats was handcrafted by Cradle Mountain Canvons owner, Anthony O'Hern, with every single kayak taking around 200 hours to build.
200 hours. 🤯
For one boat.
And they're not just sitting around looking pretty either.
Our kayak tours give people like you the chance to experience one of the most famous mountains in Tasmania, from the water - just as visitors were doing around a century ago.
But we're not stopping there... 👀

So, roughly 100 years after visitors were exploring this landscape by boat, we're continuing the tradition in handcrafted King Billy Pine kayaks..
..and soon, we'll have King Billy Pine paddles in our hands too.
We aren't trying to exactly recreate the past.
But we love the idea that, despite everything that has changed over the last century, people are still drawn here for many of the same reasons.
The mountains. The water. The wilderness.
The chance to escape the noise and experience Tasmania from a completely different perspective.
