SUPPORTING ‘OUR PLANET, OUR HEALTH’ - THIS YEAR’S WORLD HEALTH DAY THEME
World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). The date marks the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year, a theme is selected to highlight a priority area of public health concern in the world.
In the midst of a pandemic, on World Health Day 2022, WHO will focus global attention on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy and foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being.
Through the ‘Our planet, Our health’ campaign, WHO urges governments and the public to share stories of steps they are taking to protect the planet and their health and prioritize well-being societies.
At an individual level Urban Walks embraces the ‘Take action, inspire others’ plan that WHO outlines because front and centre in its recommendations is the suggestion to walk or pedal to work at least one day a week.
There is one other opportunity we’d like to highlight for all of those budding filmmakers amongst us. As part of celebrating World Health Day, WHO is sponsoring the ‘Health for All Film Festival’ culminating in the selection of one film for the ‘Our planet, Our health’ award.
This is how WHO snapshots the opportunity:
“Films are a powerful way to raise awareness, improve understanding and encourage action so that this festival aims to contribute to health promotion and education about health.
The WHO ‘Health for All Film Festival’ invites independent filmmakers, communities, students, and film schools from around the world to submit their original short films on health. The festival's aim is to recruit a new generation of film and video innovators to champion and promote global health issues.”
