There's nothing like watching wildlife cruising along the beautiful Daintree River. Magnificent ancient rainforests and mangroves line the protected marine habitat. The Daintree River is the best location to see Crocodiles in their natural habitat. Crocodile Express was the first wildlife cruise operator on the river in 1979. Your cruise will take you along sections of this spectacular waterway with your guide pointing out wildlife and flora along the foreshore and creeks. Our naturalist guide will interpret the importance of this amazing World Heritage location. A cruise on the Daintree River is a "must-do" activity as part of your Daintree Rainforest experience.

Our colony of flying foxes in Daintree Village. Drone video taken today.

About the Spectacled Flying-fox
The Spectacled Flying-fox is a large bat distinguished by its dark body, reddish-brown collar, and striking pale fur around the eyes that gives it a “spectacled” appearance. It has a wingspan of up to 1.2 metres with strong, broad wings for agile nocturnal flight. They grow to head and body length of 22–25 centimetres and weigh up to one kilogram. As a key pollinator and seed disperser, they play an essential role in maintaining tropical rainforest ecosystems.

Behaviour
Nocturnal and social, Spectacled Flying-foxes roost in large, dense colonies in tropical rainforests during the day. They feed on nectar, pollen, and native fruits, travelling long distances to locate flowering and fruiting trees. Breeding occurs once a year, with females giving birth to a single pup. Young cling to their mother before being left at the colony while she forages.
