Europe Travel Update: ETIAS Travel Authorisation

If you're planning a European holiday in 2026 or beyond, here's an important update.

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will soon become a mandatory pre-travel authorisation for eligible visa-exempt travellers, including Australian passport holders, travelling to 30 participating European countries.

Here's what you need to know:
• Applies to eligible visa-exempt travellers, including Australians.
• Required before travelling to 30 participating European countries.
• Authorisation will be obtained through a simple online application before you travel.
• ETIAS is intended for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
• ETIAS is not yet operational, and applications are not currently open.
• The European Union has advised that ETIAS is expected to commence in the last quarter of 2026, with the official launch date to be announced in advance.
