Yesterday was my business’s 13th birthday 😮 Studio B was my first baby ~ before kids & before launching my 2nd/side business Brooke Summers • Artist & pattern designer 💫 and it’s absolutely crazy to think I now have a teenager 😹

I’m only a smidge superstitious so the number doesn’t freak me out too much 🐈‍⬛ but it has been a pretty tough year if I’m being honest. I have had some pretty big shifts this year. In myself, in my output and in my dreams of where I want to take both businesses next.

I often forget / can’t slow down to celebrate the wins and milestones so this time I gave myself the day off, and checked out the newly renovated The Leea Darwin (it’s amazing btw) !!! I’ve been crazy swamped with Annual reports & corporate work in Studio B (good problem to have, yes) and am completely drained mentally so naturally I craved some quiet time, my sketch book & iPad!!

When I think back to that young Miss B who launched her little freelance design studio, working from the spare room in our two bedroom unit - I cringe a bit at how naive she was. But life come to realise that the naivety is probably one of the biggest drivers to becoming successful and giving things a red hot crack. If I knew how hard it was going to be, would I have still jumped so quickly? Maybe 🤔 Am I glad I did?! Absolutely without a doubt. Yes there’s been a lot of fkn tears, a lot of disappointments, some pretty big “no’s” and “we’ve gone with another provider this time”. But there’s also been a s**t load of “love your work”, “this is amazing”, “wow you’re so creative”, “we’re so grateful for all of your hard work” and “this is why we love working with you!”

I’m incredibly proud of everything I have created through Studio B, along with a number of collaborators and team along the way. Most of all I’m proud that I’ve kept going, and that I’ve built a creative business that is flexible around my family and one that I genuinely still love.

Thank you to those who have supported Studio B along the way, it really does mean more than you’ll ever know (unless you’re a fellow creative/biz owner then you absolutely know what I mean)!! 🥹🌸🌴

Designing Territory stories that travel the world 🎨✨

Darwin-born creative Brooke Summers has built two thriving ventures – Studio B and Art by Brooke – blending big-picture strategy with playful artistry.

Her work ranges from 200-page annual reports to colourful illustrations that find their way into kids’ rooms and onto commercial products.

With her designs seen across government, councils and communities, Brooke is showing how Territory creativity can live anywhere – on book covers, billboards, or fabric that makes someone smile.
