Weather Alert - Upcoming rainfall in the West Kimberley

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned of potential rainfall from Sunday evening into next week with heavy, unseasonal rainfall forecast, with totals of 100mm–150mm per day possible in some areas of the West and Central Kimberley. The rain band is expected to move gradually east between Monday and Wednesday.

There will be some impacts on roads. Visitors and travellers should be advised to prepare for potential short-term isolation and to not drive through flooded roads or creeks.

If you are travelling in and around these areas, please stay off closed roads or roads significantly affected by rainfall as this is for your safety and to prevent damage to the road. As stated prepare to move to locations where you are prepared to remain isolated for some time.

The Shire will endeavour to get this information to DBCA, accommodation locations and tour providers to assist all travellers.

There is an active estuarine (saltwater) crocodile risk in Bandilngan. Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are undertaking crocodile management actions. Please stay well away from the water’s edge and BE CROCWISE when visiting.

⚠️ 𝗗𝗘𝗘𝗣 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗞- 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘂 (𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸) 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸
Please be aware that there are sections of water above head height in Dimalurru. If you choose to proceed through the tunnel you will need to swim and have a waterproof torch (1 hr battery life).

🚫 Mitchell River National Park is expected to open late-May pending completion of shire and Main Roads grading program and safe access via Kalumburu Road.
🚫 Danggu (Geikie Gorge) National Park remains closed. Stay tuned to Park Alerts for updates.

Shire of Derby/West Kimberley Administration Centre is relocating to the former Visitor Centre building, creating a convenient one-stop shop for Shire services, Department of Transport licensing, and tourism information! 🌟

Updates on the Shire Derby Administration – we’re moving buildings!

We're moving! Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is relocating its Administration Centre into the former Visitor Centre building, providing a one-stop shop for administration services, Department of Transport licensing and tourism information - making it easier for everyone to access the services they need in one central place.

📅 Move Date: 4 April 2025

As a result, the Derby Administration will be closed Fri 4 April 2025, reopening at the new location on Mon 7 April 2025.

And we’ve got a new name! The building will adopt the new name “Administration Centre” to reflect its broader role, however our commitment to providing efficient and friendly customer service is the same – we are here to help you!
