"The house was so wonderful and warm when we arrived, with candles burning and the heater on. The beds are cosy and lush, and the kitchen has everything you need to self cater, and the bath tub is amazing! There are lots of little extras. We has such a beautiful stay that we extended by a night!!"

Think a sturdy backpack with waist straps that distributes weight evenly, crucial for those steep climbs like Mt Sturgeon. Remember a portable charger; stunning landscapes deserve capturing, and phone batteries can drain quickly in the great outdoors.

Packing for varied weather is key. The Grampians can experience sunshine and showers in a single day. A lightweight waterproof jacket is indispensable.

After a day exploring, a hearty meal is a must. You can use the fully equipped kitchen at Salt Creek Cottage, grab delicious provisions from the local stores and cafes, or dine out at the likes of the ever-popular Royal Mail Hotel.

As the southern gateway to Gariwerd, Grampians National Park, Dunkeld is the perfect town from which to explore the region.

Salt Creek Cottage boasts an incredible location at the base of Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt and a short walk into the main street of Dunkeld where you will find cafes, restaurants, shops and attractions.

We've put together a little itinerary for you for your stay in the beautiful Grampians region.

Salt Creek Cottage Stay: 3-Day Itinerary 🌄

Day 1: Explore Dunkeld

Morning: Stroll through Dunkeld's charming township or head for a bush walk up Mount Sturgeon or the Piccaninny.
Lunch: Enjoy a meal at a local café.
Afternoon: Visit the Dunkeld Arboretum and take in the stunning views of Mount Sturgeon.

Day 2: Visit Hamilton

Morning: Drive to Hamilton and explore the Botanic Gardens.
Lunch: Dine at one of Hamilton's delightful eateries.
Afternoon: Discover the Hamilton Gallery and local shops.

Day 3: Grampians Adventure

Morning: Drive through the Grampians National Park to Halls Gap.
Lunch: Picnic in Halls Gap and talk a short walk to Venus Baths.

.....In a bid to balance the harsh beauty of the iconic Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt towering nearby, Amanda’s interior creation is one of whimsy, cocooning, luxurious moodiness and easy warmth that wields “a dark palette, eclectic art, soft lighting, lots of layers of beautiful textiles plus vintage books and decorative pieces”. The overall effect harks to the romance of a bygone era...

This is one of the two bedrooms and our guests always comment on the gorgeous bedhead!
