✈️ TRAVELLING TO EUROPE? 🇪🇺

If you’re travelling on an Australian passport to the Schengen Area, there’s an important update to be aware of regarding the EU Entry/Exit System (EES).

From 6 September 2026, biometric registration is expected to be consistently applied at Schengen external borders. This means eligible travellers may have their passport scanned, facial image captured and fingerprints collected, with entries and exits recorded digitally.

👉 Allow a little extra time at the border, particularly when entering Schengen for the first time, as biometric processing may take longer than the traditional passport stamp.

EES does not change visa requirements and is separate from ETIAS.

Travelling with medication? Plan ahead! 💊

If you take prescription or regular medication, make sure you pack enough to cover your entire holiday, plus a few extra days in case of unexpected delays. Finding the same medication overseas isn’t always easy, and suitable alternatives may be unavailable or come at a much higher cost.

Before you leave: Keep your medication in its original packaging. Carry a copy of your prescription or a letter from your doctor. Split your medication between your carry-on and checked luggage (where appropriate) so you’re covered if a bag goes missing.

If you’ll be overseas on Census night (Tuesday 11 August), you won’t need to complete the Census. If someone is completing the Census at your usual address, they should mark you as ‘away’ but usually living at the dwelling.

🚨 Important Europe Travel Update 🇪🇺✈️

The new ETIAS travel authorisation is expected to come into effect in the last quarter of 2026.

If you’re an Australian passport holder but also hold (or are automatically entitled to) citizenship in an EU country through family ties, this could affect you.

Under the new rules, dual citizens of an EU country will need to enter Europe using their EU passport — not their Australian one. 🛂

If you haven’t already looked into claiming your EU citizenship or applying for that passport, now is the time to start. These processes can take months, and planning ahead will help avoid any future travel disruptions. ⏳🌍
