Built in 1937 using nothing but shovels, wheelbarrows, and sheer determination, the dam once powered the nearby Mt Paris Mine via an 11km water race stretching through the bush. Originally known as Morning Star Dam, it played a huge role in the area’s mining history before the mine eventually closed in 1970.
When Tassie wilderness decides to take back what’s hers… she does it in style 💚🌿🍃
Hidden deep in the wild North East, Mt Paris Dam now sits wrapped in lush greenery — a quiet reminder that nature always gets the final say.

Originally known as Morning Star Dam, it played a huge role in the area’s mining history before the mine eventually closed in 1970.
By 1985, a hole was blasted through the 16m dam wall, releasing the water and allowing the Cascade River to flow freely once again. These days, moss-covered concrete, towering trees, and the sounds of the wilderness have reclaimed the site in the most magical way ✨
