Fancy a day trip? 🚗🌾

Scotty’s Garage at Flagstone Creek is one of those little country finds worth knowing about, especially because it only opens on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

Packed with vintage cars, old signs, motoring memorabilia and all sorts of treasures from days gone by, there’s plenty to wander through and discover.

Lockyer Valley’s biggest festival is nearly here!

Plan your weekend for the 2026 Laidley Spring Festival, 11–12 September, followed by Bee Happy Day in Forest Hill on Sunday 13 September. 🎉

Just one hour from Brisbane, expect a street parade, live entertainment, markets, local produce, family fun, Show ’n’ Shine, a garden precinct, community exhibitions, cooking demos and plenty of good old-fashioned community spirit. 💛

Here, mornings start with the smell of fresh-picked produce, conversations happen over a cuppa, and there’s always a local story waiting around the next corner.

Bring the horses, follow the country roads, wander through our villages, explore our national parks and discover the little moments that make a getaway feel like a real escape.

Meet the growers who bring food to your table, enjoy the warmth of country hospitality, and slow the pace for a while, because sometimes the best adventures are the ones where you don’t have to rush.

The road trip begins… 🚗🌿

Day 1 of my three-day Lockyer Valley escape is all about slowing down and discovering the little places that make this region so special.

I’ll be browsing gourmet food stores, enjoying breakfast in Laidley, exploring beautiful boutiques, taking the scenic back roads through rolling farmland, stopping for lunch in Forest Hill, and finishing the day at Valhalla Glamping, where a wood-fired outdoor bath, a gourmet hamper and one of Queensland’s clearest night skies are waiting.

Sometimes the best road trips aren’t about racing from one attraction to the next. They’re about country hospitality, boutique shopping, fresh local produce, quiet roads and finding somewhere you simply don’t want to leave.

Here’s today’s route. Which stop would you make a beeline for first? 👇

Sometimes the best luxury is switching off.

We’ve just spent two wonderfully relaxing nights at Valhalla Glamping in the Lockyer Valley, and it felt like the perfect reset. Perched high on the edge of the valley, the Freya tent offers sweeping country views that seem to stretch forever, yet it’s only about an hour and a half drive from Brisbane.

This spacious off-grid glamping retreat is powered by solar, proving you don’t need to sacrifice comfort to tread a little lighter. Our stay included generous lunch and dinner hampers prepared by our wonderful host, Lisa, which we cooked on the Weber barbecue before settling in on the deck or around the fire pit as the sun disappeared behind the hills.

At the rear of the tent is a private bathroom with a hot shower and flushing toilet, plus one very special feature, a beautiful outdoor bath heated by a wood fire. It was one of the most memorable parts of the stay, and I’ll be sharing more about that experience over at Stay. Soak. Repeat

One of the highlights was exploring the property on an ATV tour with Lisa. We discovered breathtaking lookouts, met some very friendly farm animals (Frank the steer definitely stole the show!), wandered through the flower farm where the gorgeous poppies in my room had been picked, and enjoyed plenty of cuddles with the resident dogs.

Don’t expect to spend your time scrolling. Mobile reception is limited, which turns out to be part of the magic. A phone is provided in the tent if you need to contact Lisa, leaving you free to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with nature.

If you’re searching for a relaxing Queensland getaway, romantic glamping near Brisbane, or a peaceful country escape where the only schedule is sunrise, sunset and soaking in the view, Valhalla Glamping deserves a place on your list.

Have you ever stayed somewhere that made you forget to check your phone?

What if, these school holidays, you swapped screens for stories?

Not the kind you watch, but the kind you discover.

Behind every weathered door at Laidley Pioneer Village & Museum is a glimpse into a different time. Kids can wander through old homes, peek inside a blacksmith's workshop, imagine life in a one-room schoolhouse, and ask all the questions that history inspires.

There's no rush here. Just space to explore, laugh, learn, and spend quality time together.

So if you're looking for a school holiday outing that's a little different, come and make a day of it. Wander at your own pace, bring a picnic, and create memories in a place where the past still feels wonderfully alive.
