Bellarine & District Netball Association

Bellarine & District Netball Association A ONE-STOP Saturday Netball Program! Children between the ages of 5 and 15 have the opportunity to develop their Netball skills as a PLAYER, COACH or UMPIRE!

Kardinia Park Netball Development Competition runs every Saturday morning in line with the School terms (or there about). Beginning at 9am and concluding at 11am. Parents are encouraged to be a part of the program and develop their skills as a coach, come along and enjoy a coffee and meet with other parents. The skills the children develop by playing a team sport are unlike anything else on offer.

This opportunity of a program has a strong focus on developing confidence and skills. Courses for beginning and consolidating Umpires and Coaches are run regularly in association with Netball Victoria. It’s about time a program like this was offered. Saving you your precious time and $$. We are eliminating your need to take your children to training one night per week and then to their game another day. And if they get into a representative team, yet another night out for that training!! For your convenience, we DO NOT play during School Holidays or on Public Holidays. WHO ARE WE?? This program is a collaboration between the Bellarine & District Netball Association and the Geelong Unity Netball Association, (now part of the Geelong Central Netball Association), both of whom have an extensive history in providing junior netball. Children as young as 5 are welcome to join our Net-Set-Go program. Your Committee and Coaches are:
Liz Coles (NetSetGo Coach/Umpire) Joc Moorfoot (Office)
Cathie Jennings (Head Umpire Coach)
Joan Hepworth (Coach/Umpire) Robyn Austin (Head Coach/Umpire)
Raelene Stewart (Coach/Umpire)
Chrissy Rassmussan (Coach)
Julie Barnes (Office)

COACHING PROGRAM

N.C.A.S. accredited coaches will be working on skills and drills, offering alternatives to accommodate varying ability levels, thus providing a challenge to all players. Each session will provide skill development to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the game of Netball. Aspiring young netballers need to be taught the basic skills and the specifics of the court in order to move safely from Junior to Senior level. We will create a fun/learning environment and encourage continual involvement. Our approachable coaches will provide positive feedback on your child’s progress. Players will be taught the rules of the game so that when an infringement occurs, they will understand why the penalty is being applied and they will learn to react and adjust quickly, and in a productive manner. Coaching sessions will take place immediately prior to your child playing his/her regular game, giving them a great opportunity to put their newly acquired skills into practice. Parents will be encouraged to join in these coaching sessions so that they can also learn each skill properly and be able to reinforce the same skill at home, using the correct technique. Parents (and older players) will be offered the chance to become accredited coaches and/or Umpires. UMPIRING PROGRAM

To become a netball umpire we offer you one-on-one training under the direct supervision of the best Umpire Coach Geelong can offer, and her assistants. Your child will learn in a controlled, friendly atmosphere to encourage him/her to work towards a national “C” grade badge. The Umpire Pathway:

'On-line' theory via Netball Victoria's website
Rule Review workshops
Introduction to Umpiring course
Level 1 Umpiring courses
Practical assessment to Testing
Requirements:
U for Umpiring - $14
AA Rule book - $12

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Joan Hepworth – a remarkable contributor to the Bellarine & District Netball Association and the wider Geelong netball community.

Joan served as a dedicated Board Member, tireless volunteer, respected umpire, and an avid supporter of our BDNA Net Set Go program. She was passionate about inspiring young girls to play netball and gave countless hours to nurturing players and umpires alike.

Her leadership, encouragement, and love for the game touched so many across our association and beyond, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire for years to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Brian, Robyn, Mark, and the extended Hepworth and Austin families at this sad time.

Rest peacefully, Joan – and thank you for everything you gave to our netball family 💙❤️💛

A few weeks ago, one of our life members was given the honour of having a space named after her at the Torquay Netball Club; where she is also a life member.

The following post was shared on the TNC socials:

Introducing: The Joan Hepworth Umpire Rooms

Joan Hepworth is more than a Life Member. She’s a past president, former umpire coordinator, dedicated mentor and one of the driving forces behind the umpire pathways we still follow today.

Joan was joined at the unveiling by her daughter Robyn, grandchildren Lilly and Jude, her sister Sally, and many family and friends. Standing proudly beside her - as always - was her husband Brian, who shared these heartfelt words:

“Joan didn’t just umpire - she played, led, coached, inspired. She became club president and helped build what is now a strong, proud and successful club. Her dedication earned her life membership, but it was never about the titles – it was always about the game, the people and giving others a chance to shine.”

From all of us at Torquay Netball Club — thank you, Joan. We’re so proud to honour your legacy.
