Almost time to travel home thankfully. I’ve been quietly exploring Madrid and Barcelona for the past week due to having to delay my flight home. anyway thankfully no isolation rules in Spain so whilst wearing a mask I could still go out once the worst days were over. Spain is very much living normally and getting on with life. Tourism appears to be booming regardless. Looking forward to being back on home soil.

After 17 days of constant walking I decided to catch a bus to Finisterre referred to by ancient pilgrims as the end of the world. What a lovely little spot to rest for a bit. I did walk around of course and took a 3km trek out to the furthermost point to see the Faro de Finistere - lighthouse. This mornings sunrise has made my day/trip 💕Today I’m Catching another bus to another coastal town not far from here

Today started with a28km boat ride and we left before sunrise. My lovely host supplied breakfast at 6/45am with real coffee and toast. It was much appreciated. the boat ride went smoothly and we landed and began walking. I was only going about 16km today as I split this last stage into two. Many were going 25km to Santiago de Compostela today. About 5 km in I said goodbye to Cynthia from Houston who I have spent a quite a bit of time with these last few days. She was staying on in a Padron. I was quite tired today so decided I could go as slow as I liked and stop whenever I pleased. I made my destination at around 1pm and had lunch at a cafe before checking into my room. Then I had a nap. There is a first time for everything. I was tired 😴. Tomorrow I have 16km and then I’m finished the hiking part of my time here. Still have a week left to go to a few other places one being “Finisterre”. Ancient pilgrims referred to as the end of the world. The tradition was to walk there and burn your clothes by the beach.

I’ve clocked 30km today which consisted of 26km hike and 4km around town looking for a supermarket and chemist. I left early at 8am not quite light and arrived finally around 3pm. Couple cafe breaks and other rest breaks. Beautiful water and stone trail by a stream for about 12km. Many pilgrims all day passing by then stop then pass by again. We are all heading in the same direction. Get to my accomodation and there are 3 other aussies staying here and one girl from Houston I have stayed with before and spent time with yesterday. Didn’t see her on the trail today but came out of my room to go out and she came out of the opposite room. Tomorrow we will catch the boat together. It’s an early start and will be dark walking to the boat. Why did I decide to leave my head lamp a week ago because I hadn’t used it and it’s weight was no longer required 😂

Tough 13km yesterday. First 10 uphill. Lots of pilgrims all walking slowly and taking breaks. Last 3 felt like I was lost on a downhill rocky path in the forest. Apart from one pilgrim who practically ran past me on that section I didn’t see anyone and was sure I’d wandered off the path. The path ended at a bar/cafe and you literally rounded a corner and walked into it. It felt like a celebration! 😂 every pilgrim stopped there and new friends were made.

I walked a leisurely 8km today to the Monastery of Poia on the Espiritual variente from Pontevedra. It was a magical path through forests and vineyards and small village streets. Staying at the monastery is amazing such a beautiful old building. Dinner was at 9pm in the cafeteria and was delicious. Bit late for me but normal for Europe standards. Walking a bit further tomorrow to stay in another monastery.

22k today walked with Sandy from Queensland all day. Chatting makes the time pass quicker somehow. The walk was lovely. Pontevedra is a great town. I will spend some time here tomorrow morning checking out the historic sites as I have a short walk tomorrow so will set off at lunch time.

So happy to be back on the Camino today. Walked 16k with no major problems 😂. Lovely walk through forest most of the way. Many more pilgrims today as we get closer to Santiago groups start to do the last 100kilometres. Also saw a school group. Walked the last couple k’s with a Swiss guy. We could communicate as he knew English. Speaking one language only definitely puts me at a disadvantage sometimes
