One of our own travel advisors, Jana, was meant to set sail on AmaSofia from Budapest this week. Like many travellers on the Danube, her itinerary was affected by the current low water levels - but what happened next is exactly why choosing the right river cruise line matters.
Rather than leaving guests to figure things out, AmaWaterways stepped in and seamlessly adapted the journey. Everyone was welcomed with a night’s stay at the stunning Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection in Budapest, complete with a beautiful dinner, before travelling by premium coach to the ship the following day, with a stop to explore Bratislava along the way.
With the ship remaining in Melk a little longer than planned, AmaWaterways didn’t let that time go to waste. Guests were spoiled for choice with morning and afternoon shore excursions, and when it became clear they would miss the popular Imperial Waltz show, AmaWaterways brought the performance onboard instead for a spectacular evening of music and dancing.
It’s easy to see headlines about low water levels and assume the worst, but the reality is often very different. River conditions are something cruise lines monitor constantly, and experienced operators like AmaWaterways have well-developed contingency plans to keep your holiday running as smoothly as possible. While plans may change, the focus remains on delivering an exceptional guest experience.
This is also a great reminder of the value of booking with a travel advisor. When unexpected situations arise, we’re here to interpret updates, answer your questions and support you every step of the way. So please reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your upcoming river cruise!🚢
