Lake Awoonga Barra Charters
Awoonga update below 👇👇👇
Spring is here, the days are warmer and the fishing in Awoonga has definitely started to improve. With many anglers willing to put in the time experiencing great sessions landing multiple meter plus fish per trip throughout September. As we moving further into spring, the warmer days have definitely got the Barra moving all over the lake. Although conditions on the lake haven’t always been smooth sailing, with 20 knot plus SE winds at different periods and holding well into the evening have made it rather difficult to move freely around the lake. But for anglers who have picked their times well around more favourable ENE breezes, or those who have managed to find zones offering a buffer of protection. Great catches have been available during both the low light evening periods (new moon) and high light evening periods (full moon), with patience and persistence often proving the strategic difference. The night sessions have definitely been the pick as the Barra have been actively feeding in the lowest light periods of a 24 hour day. Swimbaits presentations have been working well at night as per usual. Mixing up presentation size, colour and retrieval speeds till you find what’s working best at the time can prove the difference. But don’t forget all those hardbodies in your tackle box, they are definitely worth a cast while things are slow, or on fire for that matter.
During the day good numbers are continuing to gather around the main basin points and bigger w**d edges but have proven rather challenging to get the strike. But as is so often the case, persistence can make the difference and a hand full of quality fish have hit the deck while the sun is still high. Over nights are fairly cool and water temperatures are still in the low 20’s in the mornings. The shallow bays have also been holing plenty of fish during the warmest times of the day, so a few casts with a w**dless presentation or your choice is well worth a shot. Big fish love the warmer water and you would be surprised what’s up there!!!
Stop in and see the good people at the tackle shop and they will sort you out as always and have you equipped and ready to do battle. They are getting big!!!
As always before launching your boat for an evening hunting down Barra on the lake, be sure to check your lighting and safety gear as accidents at night can happen very easily and be considerate of others while fishing.
