The BMW Safari is a multi-day ride of either off-road adventure or road-touring for BMW motorcycle owners. The event is an official event of BMW Motorrad Australia. It is unique to Australia and there are two different flavours of the Safari – the “TS Safari” for road bikes and the “GS Safari” for off-road adventure bikes like the legendary R 1200 GS.

BMW Safari TS 2026 - New Dates Confirmed!

Due to scheduled ferry service disruptions during the originally planned event period, BMW Safari TS 2026 has been moved to new dates.

Start: Sunday 4 October 2026
Finish: Friday 9 October 2026

Get ready for an unforgettable Tasmanian adventure, starting in Devonport and winding through some of the island’s most spectacular roads and landscapes. From the rugged west coast and Strahan, through the mountain passes to Hobart, along the stunning east coast to St Helens, and finishing in Launceston, this is road touring at its absolute best.

MEET THE SAFARI CREW
Craig, or Barnyard as we call him, a lover of people, adventure and good times!

Barnyard is the definition of a behind-the-scenes legend. As part of the Safari sweep team, he’s the last rider on the days route, making sure no one is left behind and that everyone gets through the day safely.

Whether he’s removing arrows, helping riders, fixing punctures or pushing bikes out of mud, Craig is always there when he’s needed. It’s not always the most visible role, but it’s one of the most important, and Safari wouldn’t be the same without him.

When he’s not sweeping on Safari, you’ll find Barnyard instructing on our Off Road Training courses, helping riders build confidence, improve their skills and get more out of their adventure riding.

Always willing to lend a hand and always up for an adventure, we’re lucky to have Barnyard as part of the Safari crew.

Taiter, the man behind the tyre machine!

With 15 years of industry experience and 12 years as BMW Safari’s official Tyre technician, Taiter is an absolute force and unmatched on a tyre machine! On an average Safari, he’ll quietly knock over 150+ tyre changes without breaking a sweat.

You won’t always hear him before you see him, but when Taiter speaks, people listen. Calm, incredibly skilled, and endlessly reliable, he is a huge part of what keeps Safari moving day after day.

Dr. John Smith, BMW Safari’s longstanding on-bike Doctor.

Cool, calm and always observing, don’t be fooled by his quiet demeanour. With a questionable toolkit of jokes at his disposal, you’re most likely to get to know Smithy when he grabs a microphone at rider briefings or joins you for a red at dinner.

Behind the humour is an incredibly experienced medical professional who has seen just about everything. With decades as a rural GP, 12 months spent in Antarctica as an Expedition Medical Officer, and on-bike Doctor duties with BMW Safari since 2008, there is no one better to have in your corner when adventure doesn’t quite go to plan.

Whether it’s medical advice, support on the trail, or a laugh at the end of a long riding day, Smithy is a huge part of Safari’s DNA and we are lucky to have him.
