We told you we were doing things a bit different this year, and we are living up to that.

Whilst most of you all on here know about the fishing competition itself, have you ever wondered who's behind running it all?

Well wonder no longer because over the coming weeks we will be introducing the committee behind the competition. This way you can get to know a bit about us and our WHY'S

So first one up on the chopping block is Shannon, also known as the Sargent General to her fellow committee members. She is the one behind scenes creating all the posts and flyers and pretty things you see advertised or displayed. But her biggest impact on the committee is the organizing and the running of the annual Saturday market day !

So while we learn a bit about Shannon, Why don't you all leave a comment about your favorite part of the competition for her to learn a bit more about you all

Who else has been sitting around today dreaming of warmer times ???

I know I was! And of course when I think of warm times, I think of our annual MARKET DAY that is once again going to be running on the 23rd of January at the community oval .

Who attended this year?? What a year it was with 68 stalls in attendance and hundreds of keen shoppers spending their money and supporting our local small business's.

As we have stated in previous posts we've had to make some changes this year and unfortunately one of those changes does affect the market day. For years now we have absorbed the costs of running the market, however as a committee we are just unable to absorb these costs anymore.

So for the sake of keeping this market running, we have introduced a small stall fee to help keep this day alive.

So please, do your thing, get sharing and spread the word that the Annual Market Day will be going ahead and we are welcoming one and all!

GUESS WHAT? Only 179 days until we kick off the 2027 competition... but who's counting right ?!

As hinted in our last post, we promised to bring some big things to the comp this year and boy are they shaping up to be big! More announcements to come on some of the changes that are happening once all the boring administration side of things has been complete!

However, perhaps one of the biggest changes we will be seeing this year, is after 15 years of hard work and utter dedication not only to this committee but to building this competition up to what we see today, the one and only Glenn is stepping down and hanging up his boots !

Most of you would have seen Glenn around the comp whether that be selling you the tickets (though never a winning one!), weighing in your fish or just someone to have a yarn too about everything and everything. A bit of an icon (or so he would say !) but definitely a loss that will be felt by this committee.

Whilst many of you saw Glenn as just a committee member or someone helping out the comp, he has played a vital role behind the scenes in securing many a donation, keeping track of tickets and monies, as well as running around the countryside to pick up and organize prizes, equipment and sometimes even volunteers. All of which is a drop in the well of the efforts Glenn has put into this competition over the years

This committee extends its deepest appreciation to Glenn for all that he has helped this competition achieve and we wish him all the best in future! We hope to see him weighing in his own fish next year or maybe, just maybe we may rope him in to lending out a hand ;) !

Let all show Glenn some love and appreciation !!

WE ARE BACK BABY! and we are cracking on with the planning for the 2027 Fishing carnival ! Lots of changes coming this year ( all for the better !) so stay tuned to this page over the coming weeks for them !

First of all, lets get business out of the way. Our AGM has been scheduled for the 7th of July at 7pm at the Golden Beach CFA station. All are welcomed to come and voice any concerns or ideas that they may have

AND NOW, the announcement everybody has been waiting for, the DATES for the 2027 competition will be from midnight Thursday 21st of January until 11am Sunday the 24th of January 2027. So book the annual leave, find the accommodation and make sure the baits never ending as we are ready to put on a bigger and better carnival this year for you and we sure hope you all show up once again for us !!

OK without further ado, here are the results for the 2026 Australia Day Weekend Fishing Carnival!

It seems that that this year was the year of the Flathead, plenty caught and great to see a few other fish being caught and weighed in!

Its now time for the committee to take a well deserved break before coming back together and getting organized to put on another awesome competition bigger and better in 2027 !

Is anyone else still reeling from the weekend ? What a year and what a comp ! We hope everyone had as much fun as we did this weekend 🥳
But for a minute the committee are going to have a well deserved rest before getting into the planning for next year ! Stay tuned however, results will be posted later this week 😀

And just like that the weigh in station is closed !

Time to head on down to the VMMR rooms for all the fun and results !

We have a jumping castle and face painting going. The bbq is roaring and music is pumping 💃

Now dont forget, we have both KIDS and ADULTS casting comps happening down on the oval !

So get on down and lets wrap this comp up in a big way !
