OK without further ado, here are the results for the 2026 Australia Day Weekend Fishing Carnival!

It seems that that this year was the year of the Flathead, plenty caught and great to see a few other fish being caught and weighed in!

Its now time for the committee to take a well deserved break before coming back together and getting organized to put on another awesome competition bigger and better in 2027 !

Is anyone else still reeling from the weekend ? What a year and what a comp ! We hope everyone had as much fun as we did this weekend 🥳
But for a minute the committee are going to have a well deserved rest before getting into the planning for next year ! Stay tuned however, results will be posted later this week 😀

And just like that the weigh in station is closed !

Time to head on down to the VMMR rooms for all the fun and results !

We have a jumping castle and face painting going. The bbq is roaring and music is pumping 💃

Now dont forget, we have both KIDS and ADULTS casting comps happening down on the oval !

So get on down and lets wrap this comp up in a big way !

Attention all entrants and campers.

The CFA chief officer has declared tomorrow, the 24th January, a day of Total Fire Ban for the whole state of Vicroria.

No fires may be lit in the open between the hours of 12:01am and 11:59pm. This includes any solid fuel BBQ’s.

All campfires in campsites are required to be extinguished at midnight and may not be lit again until a fire ban is not declared, so at a minimum 11:59pm Saturday evening. Campsite visits will likely occur by the local fire brigades or Parks Victoria and should a fire be found it is a fairly even bet Police will be called.

We will know whether Sunday will be declared at around 2pm tomorrow!!

The fisherman are out and the fish are swimming in 🐟 few to be weighed in this morning it looks like 😃 time to wake up and wet those lines ! Weigh in opens at 9am

It’s midnight and we’re off!!

Get them lines in the water and see what you can reel in!! The wind is supposed to drop right off so it should be a good night.

Hopefully the wind stays away and lets us keep them lines wet and fish hitting the beach!!

Hey all!!!

Who’s excited??? I definately am!!! Only one more sleep until we kick off the shoes and hit the sand ready to kick off at midnight tomorrow night.

The weekend starts with the starters bell ringing for fishing to begin Thursday evening and then we get to see the spoils of your efforts beginning Friday morning when the weigh station opens at 9am.

And then on Saturday, our annual market on the oval at the VMMR. We have heaps and heaps of stalls coming for you to peruse and we have also snagged a Golden Beach first and have Big Bears Donuts coming along to the market!! Oh boy are thy gonna bring a selection of goodies, so if you miss out on your Gippsland Briefcase full of donut goodness well I have no words!!! I’m going to need to make room in the camp fridge!! It’s a toss up but donuts are food are they not!!!

Saturday evening will be the annual cent night in the community hall. Seats can be limited so make sure you get in early to make sure you are inside the hall, but hey I say just take your camping chair and fill the car park as well, the more the merrier, and I’m sure Andrew can make it so you can hear!! But seriously make sure you book your place so you don’t miss out.

On Sunday the competition will close at 11am and then the fun begins at the VMMR club rooms for the presentation where we again have in excess of $10000 worth of prizes up for grabs. There is rods and reels, eskies, tackle bags, tackle boxes, and as usual our Adult major prize the 6x4 trailer filled with just about everything you need for that next camping trip and the even better thing you don’t even have to weigh a fish for it, simply buy an entry ticket. There is also fun for the kids at the presentation with jumping castles, face painting, and our casting competition. But wait for it, we’ve decided to throw an adults casting comp in as well!!

Tickets remain available in the shopping center in Sale today and tomorrow until the afternoon and outside the Foodworks at Golden Beach and then from Friday onwards will be available from the weigh station which will be situated in the usual place outside Foodworks.
