Last week we asked our followers about a rather unusual piece of Gundagai history, the famous Teapot Tree.
Thanks to your wonderful memories and local knowledge, many of you helped piece together its story. The original Teapot Tree stands in Sheridan Lane, where local resident Betty Molloy first began hanging teapots from its branches. Later, when Betty moved to Uralba, she took many of the teapots with her and created another teapot display there.
For those who knew Betty, she'll be remembered as much more than the creator of the Teapot Tree. A proud World War II veteran, community volunteer, golfer, storyteller and one of Gundagai's true characters, Betty lived an extraordinary life and remained deeply connected to the town she loved. She served in the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF) during World War II.
Her Teapot Tree became a talking point for locals and visitors alike, adding a little whimsy and personality to Gundagai's streetscape.
A special thank you to everyone who shared their memories and helped us uncover the story behind the Teapot Tree.
