65 years in business!

Hawkins Coach Lines was established in 1960 when Ramon Hawkins and his wife Lorna aquired the Mullaley school run and a 1950 Bedford bus from Lorna’s father, Dennis Tydd.

Over the coming decades Ray & Lorna continued to build their business and their fleet including Gunnedah’s very first double decker bus.

1963 saw them purchase their first tour bus, a 1963 Bedford Coach which was the beginning of their charter business. From here Ray started interstate tours, and private charter, and was the preferred choice of transport for many bands such as ACDC, Marcia Hines, Jon English, John Paul Young, Billy Field and many others. During which time he developed a strong friendship with Bon Scott. Bon Scott letters to Ray remain some of our most loved nostalgia at Hawkins Coach Lines.

After 30 years, the business passed to Ray’s son Paul and wife Maree.

Paul and Maree continued the ever booming charter work, with countless trips all over the country, including over 20 years of annual school camping trips to the centre of the country as well as annual ski trips to the Snowy Mountains. They also grew the Mullaley school run to include Tambar Springs, Goolhi and Black Jack school runs, which added six local employees to the expanding company.

In 2015 Paul and Maree’s daughter Emma joined the business, and in 2021 their son James also followed suit marking 4 generations of family business.

65 years on and Hawkins Coach Lines continues to provide a vital service to the town and we look forward to providing the same quality business for many more years to come.

This is a great way to take a look at Gunnedah.
You will need to book!

Please remember to observe the 40km/h speed limit in school zones between 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. to help keep our students safe during arrival and dismissal times.

When collecting children from Winder Place, please avoid queuing onto Stock Road. Police regularly patrol this area, and fines may be issued for waiting in no-stopping zones. Your cooperation helps ensure a safer and smoother pick-up for everyone. Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe!
