THIN SOLES AND WET WEATHER!
Here is an existing clients horse recently diagnosed with thin soles in both front feet from Vet radiographs.
This time of year the wet season brings increased humidity and rain - which can cause the callus soles to gradually erode on rough ground, leaving the horses soles thin and sensitive.
Thin eroded soles can present in both shod and barefoot hooves. In this case the horse is shod. I used a rubber pad with impression material between the hoof and pad to give cover whilst the callus sole rebuilds. Impression material helps to give complete surface area contact from the ground to the solar foot surface, also stops gravel getting stuck under the pad.
With this treatment, in most cases horses become sound with in 1-5 days.
