The Hamilton Botanic Gardens came alive with the colour and character of motoring history as the Vintage Drivers Club showcased a stunning collection of classic vehicles.

Visitors wandered among beautifully preserved cars, chatted with passionate owners and enjoyed the unique atmosphere of one of Australia's oldest regional Botanic Gardens. The display offered a rare chance to get up close to motoring icons and celebrate the stories behind each vehicle - a memorable morning for car enthusiasts and families alike in the heart of Hamilton.

You don't have to go far for a great fishing spot in the Southern Grampians. Lake Hamilton sits right in the heart of Hamilton, easy to get to and well worth a few hours of your time. Cast from the shores and you might just pull up Redfin, Trout or Estuary Perch.

Local expert Ray White from the Hamilton Anglers Club recommends fishing the shallows with shallow-diving minnow lures around the edges of the lake in the morning or evening for the best chance at trout and redfin. And if you're keen to catch an eel, try worms at dusk as the light fades.
Whether you're a seasoned angler or just looking for a relaxed afternoon by the water, Lake Hamilton delivers.

History has a way of finding you in the Southern Grampians.

A quiet stop along the Henty Highway, Branxholme Cemetery holds the stories of the region's earliest settlers, dating back to the 1850s.

Walk through and you'll find the stories of the region's founding families, early pastoral settlers, and even a Boer War soldier, Private C. McKinnon, who served with the 4th Imperial Contingent.

It's the kind of stop that turns a drive into something more meaningful. Worth the detour on your way to Grampians (Gariwerd) or the Great Ocean Road.

Sometimes the best getaway is the simplest one. Rocklands Reservoir sits just 13 kilometres east of Balmoral, and at 67.5 square kilometres, it's the largest water reservoir in Victoria. It's also one of the most underrated spots in the Southern Grampians.

Camp right on the water's edge, cast a line for Brown and Rainbow Trout, Murray Cod or Golden Perch, and wake up to nothing but open skies and fresh air. Six campgrounds dot the reservoir's banks, and the best part? Camping is completely free.

Not a tent person? No worries. There are powered sites, cosy cottages and lodge accommodation nearby in Balmoral or Cavendish. Pets are welcome too.

With fuel prices easing and the great outdoors calling, there's never been a better reason to load up the car and head this way.
