Did you know...

Fiji is made up of 333 islands, scattered across an enormous 1.29 million square kilometres of ocean territory — more than twice the size of metropolitan France, but the islands themselves account for only around 18,000 square kilometres of land — meaning Fiji is overwhelmingly ocean rather than land.

And within all that ocean, there’s one small stretch of ocean and reef with seven very different surf breaks. Just off Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands, the Tavarua–Namotu surf zone is home to seven legendary waves — including Cloudbreak, Restaurants, Tavarua Rights, Swimming Pools, Namotu Lefts, Wilkes Passage and Desperations. 🌊🏄‍♂️

Within this small stretch, you’ll find lefts and rights, barreling waves and powerful reef breaks — with Cloudbreak capable of producing waves up to 20 feet (6 metres) when a major swell rolls through. 🤯

Wingtip Wednesday | Taipei ✈️

Did you know...

Taipei's surrounds are home to a pretty unusual coastline. Just north of the city, volcanic rock has been carved by the sea into long, deep grooves. Each spring, peaking in April and May, the grooves become covered in bright green algae, creating the Laomei Green Reef — a seasonal sight that only lasts for a few weeks. 🌿🌊

Back in the city, inside Taipei 101 is a 660-tonne golden ball 🟡 — a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). Measuring 5.5 metres across and made from 41 steel plates, it hangs between the 87th and 92nd floors and moves to counteract the tower's sway during strong winds and earthquakes. The elevators can take you from the 5th to the 89th floor in just 37 seconds.

Did you know...

The Mariana Trench, in the waters east of Saipan, plunges almost 11 km below sea level — deep enough to fit Mount Everest inside it with room to spare. Challenger Deep, at the bottom of the trench, is the deepest known point in the world’s oceans. 🌊🏔️

Saipan launched its first-ever dual-directional fixed bus route in November 2023. Before that, much of the island’s public transport was a call-ahead, shared-ride service — meaning passengers had to book their ride two days in advance. 🚌📞

Rockhampton Airport’s 2.5-kilometre runway is a big one for a regional airport. It was once ranked among the five longest runways in regional Australia and is capable of accommodating aircraft as large as a Boeing 747 — making large charter operations possible right in the heart of Central Queensland.

Rockhampton is also known as the Beef Capital of Australia. The Fitzroy Region has around 2.5 million head of cattle — roughly 30 cattle for every person in the Rockhampton Region.
