🌿 From the Hay Plains to the plate…
Saltbush is part of the story of our landscape.
Growing naturally across the wide-open Hay Plains, this hardy native plant has long provided a valuable food source for grazing livestock — and it can add something pretty special to our own plates too!
Sheep grazing on saltbush can produce beautifully flavoured meat, while the leaves themselves can be used in the kitchen to add a delicious salty, earthy flavour to dishes.
It’s local. It’s native. It’s incredibly hardy. And it’s another little taste of what makes the Hay Plains so unique. 💚
Next time you’re travelling through Hay, take a closer look at what’s growing across those vast plains — there’s more to saltbush than you might think!
