MEET THE TEAM – Louise Ward, Owner of Yarra Valley Estate
Louise and her husband John have been the proud and successful owners of Yarra Valley Estate (formally Yarra Valley Conference Centre) for over 20 years.
During this time, Louise raised four children; built an award-winning sustainability-operated business and is an active supporter and contributor to a number of charities close to her heart. A very passionate, dedicated and empathetic person, Louise also devotes her time to volunteering in humanitarian services and wildlife charities.
In 2015, Louise expressed her wish to build an Edible Forest within her property to encourage guests and the public to enjoy a garden like no other - where all plants are either edible or medicinal. A garden that would reduce food transport miles and support the onsite restaurant, while echoing the sustainability values and ethos of Yarra Valley Estate.
In true Louise style, she began her research, sought guidance from leaders in the field and employed a consult to assist her in developing one of Australia’s largest Edible Forest gardens.
The road to launch was not without some hurdles, but in November 2018, Louise and her team were thrilled to officially open the Edible Forest YV project. As Louise states, ‘It’s a dream come true and I look forward to welcoming you to the Edible Forest in the Yarra Valley soon’.
