Happy World Dugong Day !!!The Dugongs must have known it was World Dugong Day today as over the last couple of days they
have been gathering in the Great Sandy Straits.
On yesterday morning’s (27/5/25) Dolphin Eco Adventure, we had just spent time with around 5 of our local Bottlenose Dolphins (including one who’s had a recent run-in with a shark) and were cruising towards K’gari (Fraser Iand) when we spotted a single Dugong — already an exciting special encounter.
After seeing about 8 Dugongs the day before, we were happy with the one and continued cruising towards K’gari… but nature had other plans. In the distance, more shapes surfaced and to our amazement, we ended up encountering a pod of around 15–20 Dugongs, including a few mums with their calves! After watching them for a while we left them to it with everyone onboard feeling extremely lucky to have witnessed such a rare sighting of these gentle sea grass grazers.

Monday Magic on the Water!�Yesterday’s (26/5/25) Dolphin Eco Adventure delivered the big 3 — both species of dolphins and Dugongs!
We started the morning visiting with one of our well known Bottlenose dolphin mum and calf pods. Not long after, we spotted a Dugong… then another… and another — eventually counting approximately eight Dugongs. A very special encounter as we usually only see one or two at a time.
After a refreshing swim alongside K'gari, we set course for home and were treated to a visit with a pod of Australian Humpback Dolphins.
It was one of those mornings where everything lined up just right — calm seas and amazing sightings.

A nice start to the week in the waters near the Big Woody Island lighthouse on Monday’s (19/5/25) Dolphin Eco Adventure. We were lucky to encounter four of our local Bottlenose dolphins — two mums and their calves, including the ever-recognisable Feather and her calf, Bo. While the mothers focused on fishing, the youngsters were full of energy, zipping around and enjoying the morning 🐬🐬

A few highlights from Saturday (17/5/25) on the water for our Dolphin Eco Adventure. There was alot of bait fish in the water and the Bottlenose dolphins were loving it. We also spotted some little Storm Petrels flitting about and a visit with the Pelicans of Pelican Banks

A beautiful Thursday (8/5/25) morning on the water visiting with both species of dolphins. First visit with a pod of the local Bottlenose dolphins in the waters beside Big Woody Island and then we were lucky to see the Australian Humpback Dolphins in a playful mood in the clear shallows near Moon Point, K'gari 🐬🐬
