It’s with weary minds and hearts full of cherished memories that Walk on kunanyi is closing down.

For owners Andy and Matt this decision has not come quickly or lightly, but it is the right choice.

Over the years that Walk on kunanyi has been operating we’ve taken countless people into a place that is known to us simply as “The Mountain”. Being fringed by the city of nipaluna/Hobart on one side and the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area on the other The Mountain is truely a unique and wonderful place.

While we’ve been on The Mountain we’ve always aimed to tread lightly, observe and share the place with our guests. It’s with that we have a call to action to those who come next before we sign off:

To be good custodians. Build the relationships with the people, the place and yourself. The mountain is much more than one of the most visited tourist sights in lutruwita/Tasmania and it’s certainly more than a viewing platform at the summit. It’s a place full of natural and cultural heritage spanning millennia, new and old stories, big trees and dark skies. It’s a place to be protected and shared for many more generations to come.

So when you’re on The Mountain do keep a lookout for us because we will still be there because we love this place.

Thank you to all our friends and families and all who supported us along the way.

See you on the Trails!

Love from Andy and Matt.

Hi guys,

We are currently out of office for our seasonal closure.

Because we operate our kunanyi After Dark tours during the winter months (May-September), we choose to take our break during the regular summer tourist season.

We will however endeavour to get back to you with our limited office hours.

Thank you for reaching out and see you on the trails!

Matt and Andy ☀️

G’day! 👋🏽

Just thought we might jump on here and introduce ourselves. There’s been a bit happening lately at the Walk on kunanyi HQ with us deciding to put our heads together, in true Tassie fashion and create a partnership 🤝🏽

Andy: co-owner, lover of rocks, and actual mountain goat

I’ve lived on the foot hills of kunanyi / Mt Wellington all my life. It is an absolute honour for me to be able to share the stories that I’ve learnt. I know from my own travels, including walking in Nepal, that visiting the places where the natural and cultural intrigues reside makes the stories spring to life.

I continue to ‘play’ on the mountain whenever I can, be it running, climbing, riding or walking, and I’m still discovering new wonders. I’ve got a background in geology, teaching, business sustainability and managed the drinking water catchments on kunanyi / Mt Wellington for 8 years. Needless to say, I can rabbit on about these topics for yonks.

But my main job is raring two kiddies in the idyllic foothills of South Hobart trying to impart my love of the Tasmanian wilderness to the next generation. I hope I can do that for all our guests. But never fear, I won’t talk too much, because sometimes the best wanderlust quenching moments come from soaking up the surrounds in silence.

Matt: Co-owner, bird noticer and nature lover.

I grew up in lutruwita/Tasmania. Born out of deep passion for land, people and culture, coupled with an innate knowing of what it means to connect and be human has led to starting my journey into becoming a tour guide.

With 10 years experience guiding across Australia, from Tasmania to the Red Centre, from Kakadu to the Kimberley its seems fitting to share these skills with others to enrich their visit and create a unique experience.

See ya on the trails!

New profile pic incoming... 😛🦘

IG/katypotaty77 captured these cheeky locals striking a pose on top of kunanyi ( ) in nipaluna (Hobart & Beyond). When in Discover Tasmania's capital, carve out a moment to ascend this majestic peak. If you're up for an adventure, lace up your hiking boots and join a Walk on kunanyi guided hike to the summit. Or, if you're short on time, kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus offers quick trips between and the summit ⛰️

💩 posting

That’s what Tasmanian Devils are doing here, a bit of s #!t posting.

Or in scientific speak, communicating with other Devils via what is often referred to as a latrine.

A latrine is a site, often in a frequently shared or open area like a trail, (for ease of access) that devils will leave strongly scented gifts (like poo) to communicate to other devils who frequent that same area.

I was hiking along the Organ Pipes track when I came along these scats (poo) in the pictures and was wondering that they are trying to say??

Can you feel the warmer winds?

Spring is upon us and we can feel the warmer northerly winds coming in and the bird song coming in strong.

Such a beautiful time of year on kunanyi/Mt Wellington.
