With the first snow falling on the Australian Alps this week it’s a great time to start thinking about backcountry safety for the season ahead!

As we’ve done in previous years, MSC is partnering with and to bring you the Alpine Education Series as a pre-season warm up event in Melbourne, Canberra & Sydney.

Designed for beginners and veterans alike, join us for a tasty meal and refreshing beverage as we unpack backcountry etiquette and safety, weather and avalanche forecasting, essential gear and adventure inspiration for your next touring trip. You’ll get to meet lots of like minded backcountry folk, win some fantastic door prizes and your ticket fees help keep MSC’s daily backcountry conditions reports running all snow season.

An essential part of travelling in the backcountry during the winter months is having a competent working knowledge of navigation in all conditions.
Gippsland Adventure Tours in conjunction with Alpine Access will be conducting 2 day comprehensive Intro to Alpine Navigation courses at both Mt Hotham and the Main Range NSW with military qualified navigation instructor with 30 years experience, Paddy Howlett.
These courses are suited to anybody wishing to navigate across snow and alpine areas safely and efficiently from bushwalking, camping, climbing, alpine touring to mountaineering and multi day trips.
