It has started snowing again Mt Hotham. Chains required on 2wd vehicles at present. Hoys Harrietville open 8.30-5 today & tomorrow if you are planning to head to Hotham Alpine Resort Dinner Plain Alpine Village. Caravans & trucks advised to take an alternate route. Hoys Skis P/L Bright, Victoria Omeo, Victoria Visit Harrietville

Hi Hotham fans,

Normally, about now, we’d be starting to share our excitement with you about the countdown to the start of the snow season.

Unfortunately, current events mean things are far from normal. We are grappling with what the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) situation means for Hotham, for our staff, for our stakeholders and guests. We know people are concerned, businesses everywhere are already hurting, and we are not clear on what this means for the 2020 season.

One of our priorities is the health and safety of our staff. Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board (MHARMB) staff are now working remotely where possible, and we only have essential services staff on the mountain. Our main phone line has been diverted to a mobile, which means your calls will be answered, but there is only one person on the other end now, not our full team. If you have to leave a message, please be patient and allow time for your message to be responded to.

We also prioritise the health and safety of our guests, and as such urge everyone to follow the advice and directions from the government health authorities at all times.

MHARMB has been tasked with scenario planning to scope how a delayed season might operate or, worst case, if we are directed to not open at all. There are many elements to consider and this is taking a considerable amount of time, checking that all things have been taken into account and thinking creatively to keep our mountain sustainable. This includes considering the impact that any of these scenarios will also have on our stakeholders and their profitability.

We ask for your patience and understanding in these circumstances. Please keep in mind that our staff may not be in a position to immediately answer your questions. They love Hotham as much as you do, they understand your concerns and will give you answers as soon as they are able.

We will be in touch again as soon as we have something to share with you. Stay safe, be kind; we are Australia’s highest alpine village with the most down-to-earth people, and we will get through this.

We are thankful that the weather for Friday evening in Hotham was not as bad as expected. While the resort experienced fire threat through the afternoon and evening, the cool change that arrived also delivered a little rain. As result we have not experienced any damage to the resort infrastructure or community, both at Hotham and Dinner Plain. As the weekend commences we have cool temps and the clearest sky we have seen for a week or more giving us a reprieve. The threat is not over with fires burning close by and we will continue to work with the RMB, Fire and Emergency services and the local community to ensure the safety of our staff, community and the resort.
