🌊 Taylors Beach has long been one of Hinchinbrook’s most cherished seaside escapes. Once known as Cassady, the town was renamed in 1969 to honour its first settler, William Henry Taylor.

🏖️ In its early days, life here moved with the tides — locals built beach shacks, launched tin boats from the sand, and spent weekends fishing 🎣, crabbing 🦀, and soaking up the sea breeze 🌬️.

✨ Today, Taylors Beach still captures that laid-back charm.
Just 25 minutes from Ingham 🚗, it’s a peaceful retreat where low tide reveals tidal flats alive with soldier crabs 🦐, and the two-lane boat ramp offers easy access to Halifax Bay and the Hinchinbrook Channel 🚤.

🎣 The Victoria Inlet Foreshore is a favourite fishing spot, complete with barbecues 🔥, picnic areas 🧺, and rod holders.

Whether you’re casting a line, exploring the flats, or simply unwinding by the water 🌅, Taylors Beach is a timeless destination — where the past lingers gently on the breeze and every visit feels like coming home 🏡.

Have a go at this tank Queenfish. Early morning, glassy water casting to bow waves on the flats. Now that’s heart racing stuff. Surface eats from big Queenfish are one of my favourites. I think Pete would agree .pole

Lucinda might be a sweet town 🍬 but it’s got a steamy back story 🔥😉

This charming coastal village at the southern end of the Hinchinbrook Channel owes its name to a paddle steamer with quite the political pedigree 🚢.

The SS Lucinda, launched in 1884, wasn’t just a sleek government vessel — it famously hosted secret drafting sessions for Australia’s Constitution 📜 in 1891 while moored on the Brisbane River.

That’s right — Aussie democracy was floated into being! 🗳️🌊

When the sugar industry surged in the late 1800s, a new township needed a name. What better inspiration than the legendary steamer? And so, Lucinda set sail again — this time on land 🏖️🚶‍♀️.

Today, Lucinda is best known for its 5.76km-long sugar jetty — one of the world’s longest! — and as a gateway to Hinchinbrook Island 🏝️.

With fishing 🎣, boating 🚤, and laid-back vibes 😎, it’s a sweet spot with a name that links sugar, steam, and statecraft.

Did You Know❓

The Ingham Courthouse is a standout example of postwar modernist architecture in regional Queensland. Built between 1948 and 1953, it replaced an earlier timber structure destroyed by fire.

Designed by Queensland's Public Works Department, the building features a distinctive two-storey brick façade with strong horizontal lines, cantilevered balconies and glass louvres, marking a bold shift from traditional courthouse design.

More than just a legal centre, it symbolised postwar confidence and civic pride in Hinchinbrook. Its layout cleverly separates judicial, public and administrative spaces, making it both functional and forward thinking for its time.

Heritage listed in 2000, the courthouse continues to serve the community and stands as a reminder of Ingham’s resilience and modernisation in the mid 20th century. Look closely next time you pass, it’s not just bricks and mortar, but a chapter of local history.
