Ipswich - I love all the old homes and buildings. What I don't love is outdated infrastructure and the continued ignorance of State and Federal government.
All take - no give 🤷‍♂️
Why is the Federal Government stuck in the 70s when everyone else has moved on?
Did you know, as a Council we receive less than 1 per cent of untied Federal Funding? Untied means funding provided that we have full control over how it is spent.
While our population has far more than doubled since the 1970s, our river crossings have not. We are still having to use the same singular river crossing that was built in 1965. The David Trumpy Bridge is over capacity with more than 40,000 vehicles per day and a second bridge for Ipswich’s CBD has been identified as a priority in Infrastructure Australia’s Infrastructure Priority List. Due to the Bridge's design, it is not equipped to be able to have anti throw screens added which means it is not as safe for pedestrians as it should be.
The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) is urging Federal candidates to commit to fairer funding for local governments in the upcoming federal election on May 3 2025. Councils receive less than 3 cents in every $1 of taxation revenue, while the Federal Government receives more than 80 cents of that same $1 of tax, yet councils are paying for more services and infrastructure than ever before, including pitching in for Federal Government responsibilities.
We are calling on all Federal Candidates to commit funds in the upcoming Federal Election towards our much needed advocacy priorities and for Financial Assistance Grants to be restored to 1 per cent.
