Sorry again! We have been flat out this winter! And not really with the fishing but moving headquarters! We have relocated to Adaminaby.
Here a bit of a fish dump since the last!

Fishing this winter seems to be a little slower this year though it’s definitely picked up over the past couple weeks now fish have moved in closer and can be Polaroided on the still days though very challenging fishing.
Though the rough days now cooperating to normal fast strip tactics.
It will be interesting to see what happens as we approach spring I’ve got a feeling it might be hard to pass up for the high traffic river opening.

Tony Jokela came up for a spontaneous fish over the weekend. Even though I mentioned the fishing wasn’t on he was really keen on learning some winter eucumbene yabbie tactics.
The day was a grid for sure with only two good takes and a couple “tap tap drops” but we were rewarded with this effort of a nice thick yabbie feeder that took the well presented fly ferociously. Tony fished extremely well to instruction. A good attitude and keenness really helps on the slow days where you need to take your opportunities. I enjoyed my day! I hope he did too. Great company at the mainlands Great Lake.

A missed post!🤦‍♂️
Kevy came back for one last crack with me at the rivers in early April. Rather hard day in the 50km gusts Kev still new to fishing fished awesome and adjust from dry flys to streamers in between hatches and gusts..
He was rewarded with this magnificent buck rainbow trout. Best thing was this was his goal his first rainbow trout on fly. I don’t think you could ask for a better first rainbow.
Well done brother your a legend and I love our outings👍👏🏼

Well it really seemed like autumn hit us fast as I look back on the great river season just gone.

My reflections are that it was harsh on some rivers during the heat waves in Feb though what rivers made it through the trout did well. Probably a testament to the anglers for resting these types of water. In the mountains we had great fishing and improved fishing in streams that seamed to lacked life the season before. So very promising signs for season 26/27.
As mentioned in the previous post we have shifted focus on the lakes and they are really only just starting to fish “winter”good now as the lakes reseed exposing active yabbie beds.
It’s funny trying to work out the nature of hydro lakes. You’d think the more water the better, True in some cases like spring and summer time for boosted insect activity. Though the best coming into winter is either stable or falling lakes to get the fertility line is right at your feet!
Anyway I suspect the fishing to get pretty hot over the next month as the lakes drop. Here’s some pics of recent grinding lake sessions one or two takes off better fish, if the hooks sticks it’s worth the grind.

We are also still offering dry fly fishing on some lakes but for how long??? As you can see… quality yabbie and late season hopper feeding browns to show case if your interested in being fast tracked on still water. My books are pretty open over the autum/ winter period🤟🏼

And lastly my annual thanks to local businesses for there help over the season just gone.

Late summer early autumn photo dump.
Again I apologise for the lack of posting as we have been extremely busy with guiding and other work and of course life.
The fishing/guiding has been kind depending on location choice. Though getting tougher as we approach the end of the season. The cool overnight temps have definitely changed fish behaviour in the rivers though at present there is some great opportunities arising to the angler willing to put in the work. I’d like to think some of our lakes will come into own for a month or so with some late season mayfly hatches before the snow dumps.
so it’s not just slogging it out we’ll just have to adapt!
I’ll have availability’s during april on flowing water till the first sign of running fish and then we will shift focus to our winter lakes fishing.

First timer Nathan has hit the ground running with his introduction to fly fishing.
I think due to the choice of accommodation helped alot. Nathan and his lovely partner stayed at the beautiful Moonbah Huts and had a practical casting lesson on the private dam where his skills were fast tracked by Brett and myself. Starting off with the basics then as the fish fired up was able to pick flies up of the water and delivering them to a different target with minimal false casting. Nath was rewarded with a lovely mature brown on a geehi beetle.

We progressed to sight casting to wild alpine brownies and Nathan fished extremely well. Followed instructions to a tee and was rewarded with 3 respectable browns on dry fly and other opportunities that didn’t stick. (Pun intended)

We fished off with some stream craft lessons on all water picking off lovley small stream browns that were very entertaining in the crystal clear waters of the snowy catchment.

Again well done Nathan it was a pleasure showing you around our alpine playground.
