Silverton, in the far west of New South Wales, is a small but intriguing town that boasts some fascinating Aussie stories, art and scenery.

The town has a complex and interesting history which is told through stories from the Traditional Owners, the Wiljakali people, as well as the early European settlers and a rush of optimistic silver miners in the 1800s.

These days it's almost a ghost town, with a population of around 50 people. But it continues to make an impression, with the remote location and deserted landscapes featured on the silver screen in Mad Max 2 and A Town Like Alice.

It's the kind of place we love to introduce to our guests. We always enjoy meeting some of the local artists at their quirky galleries before lunch and a cold drink at the famous Silverton Hotel.

Silverton is featured on our 3-day Broken Hill Adventure Air Tour, but would also be a great addition to a bespoke trip focusing on the outback, regional art, or Australian history.
