As we head into the new year, one of the most important periods in the cruise calendar is almost here.

January and February mark Wave Season, when many small-ship and expedition operators release their best offers of the year. The most sought-after ships, itineraries, and cabins often sell out quickly, sometimes within days, once these offers appear.

Having a clear idea of what you’re interested in ahead of time makes all the difference. Whether that’s a specific destination, ship, or even just a travel window, being prepared means we can move quickly, hold cabins, secure preferred options, and help you take advantage as soon as the right opportunity comes up.

From mid-January, we’ll start sharing selected Wave Season opportunities, focusing only on voyages we think you will love on ships we’d happily travel on ourselves.

If you already have something in mind, or would like to explore a few possibilities, feel free to get in touch.

A short conversation now can make Wave Season work in your favour.

We love hearing from our clients when they come home from an incredible adventure, the most common comment we hear, is that there are just no words to describe the trip. They are always blown away, and they always mention how perfect their trip was for them, and there is a good reason for that...

When you first contact us, we ask lots of questions about what you want out of your expedition, what matters to you most, and from that information, we compile a short list of itineraries that we think check all of your boxes.

That's how we are different from other agents, we listen to you, and we don't leave you out in the cold after confirming your booking, we are here with you for your entire journey, from the first contact, through the booking process, right through to post voyage, we are here to answer questions, get you prepared and ready for travel, help with flights and accommodation recommendations, you name it.

That is why our wonderful client Lyn loved her experience with iExpedition, because the customer experience is second to none.

No more overwhelm, we are always here to help.

One of the most exciting things about expedition cruising?
The itinerary is a living, breathing thing.

Maybe the swell is too high at a landing site… so the ship reroutes to a sheltered bay you didn’t even know was on the plan.
And it turns out to be the highlight of the whole trip.

Maybe the clouds part just long enough for a sunrise that leaves the whole ship speechless.

Maybe you get an unexpected wildlife encounter, that you never even thought possible.

On small ships, you learn to embrace the unknown… because that’s where the magic happens.

If you love adventure unscripted, then expedition cruising may be for you, get in touch, and start your journey today!

As the year winds down, we just wanted to let you know that the iExpedition team will be taking a short break.

We’ll be finishing up on Friday 19 December and reopening on Monday 5 January.

We will still be keeping an eye on emails during this time, but replies may be a little slower than usual as we take some time to rest and reset.

Thank you for being part of our community this year. We wish you a safe, relaxing and fulfilling holiday period, wherever it finds you, and we’re looking forward to reconnecting in the new year feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready for more adventures ahead.

Warm wishes,
The iExpedition Team

There’s a moment on every expedition when something shifts.

For some people, it’s stepping into a zodiac for the first time, skimming across water that’s impossibly blue.

For others, it’s anchoring somewhere you’ve never heard of, watching the expedition team hop out first to scout the landing.

And sometimes it’s as simple as watching the sun set from the bow, floating in the middle of nowhere.

Small-ship travel isn’t just about where you go — it’s about how it changes the way you see the world.

Tell us what that defining moment from your cruise, or what you are most looking forward to on your next small ship cruise in the comments 👇👇

Ever wondered what a small-ship expedition actually feels like?

Imagine waking up to the soft hum of the ship moving through glass-still water. You step outside with your morning coffee, and instead of a bustling pool deck, you’re greeted by silence — the kind that only exists in wild places.

A pair of albatross swoop behind the vessel. The breeze tastes like salt and ice. The world feels bigger, and somehow you feel lighter.
No crowds. No queues. Just you, nature, and a ship small enough to follow the coastline where the big vessels simply can’t go.

Now that is a whole new level of travel.

Update from Ben In Tasmania aboard the Douglas Mawson

I’ve been settling into life onboard as we continue tracing Tasmania’s wild and endlessly surprising coastline. Every day out here reinforces why expedition travel is so special — and why a small ship makes all the difference.

One of our early highlights was Bruny Island. We started the day with a zodiac cruise — always a favourite of mine — getting right up close to those sheer dolerite cliffs that rise straight out of the water. Later, I joined a coastal walk through heathland, eucalypt forest, and open Southern Ocean viewpoints. It’s one of those places that feels both remote and full of life, and it set the perfect tone for what this voyage is all about.

A few days later, another morning ashore took us through an old coal mine site and along a historic jetty — Tasmania’s history tucked into a quiet corner of the coastline. We had Lime Bay on the plan too, but the swell had other ideas. In true expedition style, the team adjusted, and we kept exploring safely. Those unexpected shifts often end up becoming some of the most memorable parts of the journey.

We then had a stretch at sea, which gave everyone time to properly enjoy the ship and settle into the rhythm of the voyage. Sailing past the towering cliffs of Cape Raoul was a standout moment. Seeing those vertical columns from the water is something I won’t forget.

Reaching Three Hummock Island been yet another highlight. Some of the group took on a 16km walk to South Hummock, finishing up at the old Homestead for a well-earned coffee and conversation. Later, East Telegraph Beach delivered soft colours, calm water, and a shoreline scattered with beautiful shells.

Tasmania keeps delivering one incredible moment after another, and there’s plenty more to come as this maiden voyage unfolds.
More updates soon!
